Trafford Leisure announces a phased leisure centre reopening from the 27th July 2020

Trafford Leisure, which runs leisure facilities across the borough, is preparing its venues for a phased reopening from the 27th July.

move Urmston, Stretford Leisure Centre, Altrincham Leisure Centre and Sale Leisure Centre will be the first to reopen on the 27th July, when pre-booked activities, including the gym, swimming and group exercises will be available to members, including those who froze their membership during lockdown. Activities will be available to the wider community, through its pay and play scheme, from the 6th August.

The Grammar, Partington Sports Village, Stretford Talbot and OT Sports Barn will remain temporarily closed, with Trafford Leisure expecting to be in a position to reopen and safely operate these facilities within government guidelines from September. In the meantime members of these venues will be able to use the facilities and utilise the activities available at Trafford Leisure’s other leisure centres.

During the pandemic, George H Carnall leisure centre has been repurposed for the benefit of the community by the NHS Manchester Foundation Trust. For the foreseeable future the trust will continue to operate some of its key services for the residents of Trafford from this location.

In the meantime George H Carnall members are encouraged to use the new move Urmston leisure centre or they can choose to continue to have their membership frozen.

Jo Cherrett, COO, Trafford Leisure says: “We look forward to welcoming our customers back in a phased way and to recommence some of our activities, helping to put health and wellbeing at the heart of our community. A managed and staggered reopening allows us to put the safety of both our staff and customers first.

“Trafford Leisure offers so many activities and programmes for a huge variety of people, including swimming lessons, gymnastics, group exercise classes and sports clubs, as well as the gym itself. All our customers are valued and important, and all are being considered in how we best reopen the leisure centres, whilst adhering to the revised health and safety guidelines. Reopening our doors to all our customers safely is taking patience, effort and we remain positive that financial support from the government will still follow. We want to be able to fully run the programmes and activities our community need and this will help us all become more resilient and stronger in facing this global pandemic now and in the future. We want everyone to feel secure in visiting us, and to come back stronger, in an ever changing environment.”

Cllr Liz Patel, Executive Member for Culture and Leisure at Trafford Council, says: “We are delighted that leisure facilities in Urmston, Stretford, Sale and Altrincham will soon be back open for residents to enjoy. Health and wellbeing is a key priority for the Council and the wide range of facilities and classes our leisure centres offer will give both adults and children lots of options to get active after lockdown.

“In the current absence of extra government funding for the leisure sector, the Council has agreed to invest almost £1 million into our leisure centres to keep them running for our communities, demonstrating our commitment to retaining these important and popular facilities.”

Trafford Leisure is working closely with ukactive and sports governing bodies to ensure operational reopening decisions are based on scientific evidence and guidance, with revised social distancing measures and a thorough cleaning regime in place. Trafford Leisure will be asking customers to be respectful of other people in the facilities and will be restricting visitor numbers and providing hand sanitising stations and additional cleaning pods for wiping down equipment after use.

Trafford Leisure will be updating customers on how the leisure centres will operate via a series of emails, a ‘what to expect’ video and a frequently asked questions hub, as well providing specific advice for swimming lessons and its sports club customers.

Throughout lockdown, Trafford Leisure has run valuable live online classes on its social media platforms, to keep people exercising during the pandemic, and has committed to continuing these online services for the community, to help reach people who are shielding or apprehensive about returning to their leisure centre.

Jo Cherrett concludes: “I would like to remind you of what Chris Whitty, the Government’s Chief Medical Officer, recently said – ‘there is no situation, no age, no condition, where exercise is not a good thing’. We are committed to getting Trafford moving again, at a time when fitness is even more important for our physical and mental wellbeing.”

0

A site manager working at Bellway’s Barton Quarter development on Chorley New Road in Horwich has received a prestigious National House Building Council (NHBC) Pride in the Job award.

Danny McCarron received the award for excellence in on site management at Barton Quarter, a development of stylish three and four bedroom homes.

Danny, who has worked for Bellway for 10 years, has won the Pride in the Job award twice previously.

The NHBC Pride in the Job award, which has been established for over 40 years, recognises and rewards the industry’s very best performers and is an accolade that site managers aspire to achieve.

To receive an award, site managers must score highly in all areas of build and site management including quality of workmanship, technical expertise, health and safety and leadership. Judges are looking for meticulous attention to detail and the special qualities and attributes that set quality award winning site managers apart from the rest.

On receiving this award, Danny said: “Being recognised by the NHBC for excellence on site and delivering some of the highest quality homes is a great achievement. Having won the award previously, I know first-hand that you have to be totally committed, work hard, stick to your plan and never give up. As a keen runner who has competed internationally and completed eight marathons, the commitment and dedication that is required to run a marathon is similar to what is required to win the Pride in the Job award.

“The Pride in the Job award is a real team effort. I am very proud of the team at Barton Quarter and delighted they are getting the recognition they deserve for their hard work and for continually giving that bit extra.”

Construction director at Bellway, Paul Wright, adds: “Danny is an incredibly experienced site manager and has done an incredible job on site at Barton Quarter. This award is testament to his excellent standards, professional management style and clear leadership skills. Only 450 site managers across the UK (out of 11,000) are selected to receive a Pride in the Job award, so we are very proud of Danny for this achievement.”

Manifest launches INCITE — a professional development platform for a new era of communications

INCITE, a new global professional development platform for the creative industries has been unveiled today, backed by international brand communications agency, Manifest. The new venture officially launches on 1 August, offering a comprehensive programme of digital and live events designed to drive professional development across the creative sector and inspire new and improved ways of working. The curriculum will be split into three key pillars; imagination, implementation and insight, with subjects ranging from behavioural economics to anti-racist leadership.

Throwing out the rule book

INCITE will be run by former head of publishing operations for Shortlist Media, Jamie Klingler who has been appointed to lead the new business as Managing Director. Jamie commented:
“INCITE is an opportunity for all communications professionals to not only invest in their development, but in the development of a more progressive, inspired and innovative industry. We can’t stand and wait for a better industry to form under our feet, we have to incite it. We need to write a new script.”

“Our range of contributors will surprise and maybe even shock some people, with entrepreneurs, activists, artists and data scientists as well as prominent communicators from around the world getting involved,” She added. “Our subject matter will be equally diverse, with sessions on behavioural economics, artificial intelligence, design thinking, brand activism, accessibility and forging an anti-racist working culture already filling the schedule. Basically, take whatever you expect from a standard professional development scheme and throw it out of the window. We’re starting from scratch here and building a new format from the ground up.”

Supporting Grassroots Diversity & Inclusion

A central tenet of the INCITE proposition is to promote diversity and inclusion across the creative industries, presenting a ‘representative and incendiary’ speaker list drawn from all corners of culture and commerce. Its content and events will be free to all under-23s looking to break into the creative industries through its INCITE Includes initiative, which will forge partnerships with a variety of non-profit platforms and organisations to better connect the industry with minority communities currently under-represented in the sector.

Alex Myers, founder of Manifest and chairman of INCITE commented:
“INCITE started life as an agency zine that gathered its own momentum, and soon became the banner under which we delivered internal training and inspiration sessions at Manifest. During the COVID-19 lockdown, we opened up these sessions as webinars and the response was astonishing. From unpicking brand strategy to forging an anti-racist industry, our ‘active knowledge’ topics clearly struck a chord and we had CMOs, agency owners and entrepreneurs alike all asking if we were planning on doing something with it.”
“But it’s not just a webinar programme. We have free-for-all content through the INCITE Inbox monthly mailer, INCITE Mag digital publication and our popular Fresh Meet podcast, then we’ll offer tickets for our online In Session webinars and In Person live events. Our Insights Manager, Aaron Maughan and his team will produce quarterly In Depth global trend reports analysing the emerging trends affecting the communications world. Subscribed members will have access to all of this and more, as well as a searchable archive of all past events and reports, exclusive interview content with our keynote speakers and member-discounts on data tools and software. It’s a whole ecosystem of inspiration and development for communications professionals at every level and from every background.”

Digitl casts off new site for Quba Sails

0

Digitl, the Manchester based eCommerce, marketplace and web design agency, has created and launched a brand new website for Quba Sails, the internationally renowned British nautical outfitters and specialists in all-weather technical clothing.

Quba Sails was founded in 1996 in Salcombe, Devon, by two friends with a shared passion for sailing and the lifestyle of the coast. It is now headquartered in Stockport. The brand was sparked by an idea to create unique jackets from reclaimed canvas sailcloth. Working with just one talented local seamstress, word of these one-of-a-kind custom jackets spread and Quba’s popularity quickly grew from orders by sea-faring locals, to visiting yachtsmen and holidaymakers, and eventually to customers around the globe.

Quba’s collections now encompass both men’s and women’s nautically inspired ranges well as a comprehensive selection of sailcloth accessories including bags and cushions. It also operates over 20 standalone stores in England and Wales.

The core objectives of the new site are to communicate Quba’s heritage, the quality of its collections and to build on its reputation in the sailing and watersports communities.
The team at Digitl has worked hard to create a cleaner and more user-friendly site with better UX and UI capabilities – especially on mobile. The ultimate aims of the new platform are to increase conversions and drive sales online.
Darren Ratcliffe – founder of Digitl – said: “Over the past 25 years Quba Sails has become an iconic British brand so this has been a great project to work on. It has a well-established presence in the sailing and boating communities, but we wanted the new site to act as a springboard to widen its appeal. Quba produces some of the UK’s best outdoor apparel and we’re confident the site will reinforce this message and help drive its growth over the next few years.”

James Clarke – eCommerce & Digital Marketing Coordinator at Quba Sails – added: “Quba is a much loved brand and we knew it was time to create a new site that reflected where we are as a business. Digitl really understood what we wanted to achieve, and the team has done a great job in bringing it to life. I’m confident the optimisation for mobile and the overall UX improvements will add value and help us increase our sales and market position.”

iES secures £500k funding package following merger

Intelligent Environmental Services (iES), a leading North West environmental consultant, has secured a £500k invoice finance facility from Advantedge as it looks to build on its recent merger with Winsulate.

Based in Bolton, iES provides expert hazardous material consultancy to a broad range of commercial clients, specialising in asbestos, contaminated land and wider environmental contaminants such as lead, mould and infectious agents. Founded in June 2019 by managing director Danny Jones, iES has seen a surge in demand for its COVID-19 contamination services, as businesses look to minimise the impact of the global pandemic.

Last month, the firm completed a merger with Manchester-headquartered Winsulate, a national provider of asbestos and environmental remediation services. Founded in the 1970s, Winsulate has become a significant environmental risk specialist, with a history of working in some of the UK’s most complex business environments.

The merger has provided iES with considerable industry knowledge and expertise, and enables the enlarged firm to provide a bespoke end to end service of hazardous material management for clients across a range of industries and sectors.

The funding, provided by the Manchester office of national invoice finance specialist Advantedge, will support the business as it looks to increase its staff numbers, with plans to double headcount to 50 in the next 12 months. The funding will also be used to expand the firm’s marketing capabilities and drive lead generation.

Danny Jones, managing director at iES, said: “Securing this funding is a significant step in supporting the business, both in the immediate term and when looking to expand in the future. Following our merger with Winsulate, we are now in a great position to provide a truly tailored service across the hazardous materials market, and can add real value to clients.

“Darren and the team at Advantedge were great to work with on this – they really understood the needs of the business. As a service provider, we have often found it a greater challenge to access this type of funding, but the Advantedge team took the time to understand these complexities, and have put in place a deal that works for all parties.”

Darren Cottenden, director at Advantedge, said: “At Advantedge, our focus has always been on supporting local businesses, with sales teams on the ground across the UK. I’m therefore extremely pleased to be able to complete this transaction, and support iES as the business looks to expand and create local jobs in a difficult time for British business. We wish Danny and the team all the success for the future.”

Ask and Tristan announce completion at 100 Embankment

0

Ask Real Estate and Tristan Capital Partner’s EPISO 3 Fund, have announced that they have reached practical completion at the 100 Embankment scheme, situated at the point where the two cities of Salford and Manchester meet, opposite the Cathedral.
100 Embankment is the second and final phase of the Embankment scheme in Salford’s Greengate neighbourhood, which has benefitted from extensive regeneration in recent years.
The 166,000 sq. ft, 9-storey, Grade A office building has been delivered by Ask Real Estate and the Richardson Family, in a joint venture with Salford City Council and a Tristan Capital Partners’ Fund.
The building also features a unique two-tier roof terrace, which will be available for occupiers to use at their leisure or book for events.
BAM Construction was appointed as main contractor on the scheme, with a construction programme that supported each partner’s ambitious social value targets.
100 Embankment sits alongside its sister building 101 Embankment, which completed in 2016 and won ‘Commercial Development of the Year’ at 2017’s Insider Property Awards. The building was fully let to a singular tenant, Swinton Insurance, shortly following completion.
Both buildings sit on top of a retained Grade II listed façade, which once operated as Exchange Station. The processional route up Cathedral Approach over the River Irwell was incorporated by the team to ensure a sense of arrival to both businesses and visitors.
Ask Real Estate’s managing director, John Hughes, said: “The Embankment project has been a hugely significant one for Ask, and it’s great to be now reaching the final stages of construction.
“There are few Grade A office buildings of this size and quality available in such a prime location within the city centre; 100 Embankment is situated next door to Manchester’s retail core – which includes Selfridges, M&S, Harvey Nichols and the Arndale Centre – whilst also being a stone’s throw from the wide variety of bars and restaurants to be found at the Corn Exchange.
“Similarly, it benefits from second-to-none connectivity, being located next door to Manchester Victoria’s train station and tram stop. Businesses that choose to relocate here can offer their teams a fantastic working environment, and the level of interest we’ve seen from prospective occupiers is testament to that.”

Ian Fleming, regional director at BAM Construction, added: “I’d like to extend my thanks to the full site team for their hard work on this landmark scheme, which combined an excellent standard of delivery and a well-considered construction programme which will leave a lasting, positive legacy in Salford.
“We combined our well-known collaborative working approach with both classical and digital construction techniques to achieve these ultra-modern offices and to overcome some considerable technical and logistical challenges.”

James Brodie, Executive Director at Tristan Capital Partners, said: “This is a great achievement for us and the Ask and BAM teams, who have worked seamlessly on the delivery of the second phase of this project. We are pleased to have been involved in the development of two outstanding, modern office spaces as part of Salford’s ongoing Greengate regeneration.”

Salford City Mayor Paul Dennett said: “The completion of 100 Embankment is a significant moment for this city.

“Salford people have already benefited though employment opportunities during the construction phase and this high-quality office space will generate investment that local people will benefit from for many years to come.”
CBRE and Cushman & Wakefield act as joint agents on 100 Embankment.
