IT & Telecoms provider facilitates safe and effective homeworking

0

A Bolton business has played a key role in assisting customers across the North West and beyond to ensure that their organisations thrive throughout the pandemic, after achieving a prestigious cyber security accreditation.
As the new restrictions have drastically changed the way we work, IT and Telecoms provider Digicomm 360, based on Halliwell Road, has been busy helping businesses with the transition to homeworking – something many organisations are simply not geared up to do.

As we enter Cyber Security Awareness month, Managing Director Mark Pollitt explains more:
“The Covid-19 pandemic sparked a huge IT and telecoms challenge when businesses were first instructed to close their offices back in March – ensuring that employees could carry on working from home.

“It wasn’t just a case of sending staff home with a laptop and a mobile, as there is much more that needs to be taken in to consideration. We have been offering a range of IT and telecom products that enable employees to work together on their preferred platforms – without compromising the business they work for”.
Cyber security risks have gone up by 50% over the lockdown period, as hackers have launched a wave of cyber attacks to exploit homeworkers, as the pandemic forced people to use often unfamiliar computer systems.

If not carried out correctly, homeworking can subject businesses to vulnerabilities which are can leave them wide open to both cyber attacks, security risks and data protection breaches. Over the past six months, Digicomm has heavily invested in achieving the Cyber Essentials Plus certification and been awarded trusted partner status. This government-backed GCHQ certification means that the business is perfectly placed to guard customers from the most common cyber threats and reduce their risk by up to 80%.

Digicomm 360 helps businesses communicate by providing the best outsourced telecoms and IT solutions based in the North West and delivering across the UK. With over 100 years collective expertise, backed up with experience and award wins, the business fully understands how effective communications can help an organisation thrive. Clients include Bolton Arena, Age UK Salford and People Matters HR.
As the virus continuous and workers have once again been instructed to work from home if they can, Digicomm have reported an influx of enquiries from businesses who want to improve their homeworking offering.

“Businesses were caught out during the last lockdown – and they are keen to ensure that it doesn’t happen again.
“At Digicomm, we work as an extension of our client’s businesses, and it’s our role to not only ensure that that can operate effectively during these difficult times – but that they continue to grow and thrive”.

“Put simply, we free our customers of the pressure of understanding IT and telecoms, leaving them confident in the knowledge that their essential systems function just as they need them to – which is more important now than ever.”

Independent finance provider, Reward Finance Group, has appointed David Baddiel as business development manager, in its Manchester office, to meet demand for funding from SMEs.

David, who has a degree in Banking and Finance, joins from specialist lender, Together, where he provided finance to businesses and individuals against all property types. Prior to that he worked in the commercial and investment banking departments within the Royal Bank of Scotland.

In his new role he will be working with his current network of brokers and introducers, developing new contacts across the North West, and meeting with SMEs requiring funding.

Speaking about his new role, David said,

“Over the last 10 years, Reward has built an excellent reputation in the region and across the north, funding hundreds of businesses with a straightforward and common-sense approach. It is very clear that they listen to the needs of each business, as no two are the same, in order to create simple, transparent, and quickly delivered solutions.

“I have been impressed with the flexibility and speed they can turn around a deal, which is important at the best of times but even more so in these more uncertain ones.”

Steve Noble, managing director of Reward Finance Group – North West, is pleased to welcome David to the team.

“Reward has been represented in the North West for over four years, and last year we opened a new office in Manchester city centre. We celebrated earlier this year when we completed our 100th deal, bringing the total lending in the region to £30m. This has since been surpassed and includes the writing of our largest ever deal at just under £3.5m in late August.

“Being consistent through these uncertain times has been really important to us and our clients. That’s why there have been no changes in our approach, appetite or policy; just a continued desire to meet the funding demands of an SME market that needs support.

“David is an excellent addition to the team, reaffirming our growth plans. He is well known and respected in the industry amongst the introducer networks. In addition, we’ve already seen he has the personality and drive to get on well with our clients’ directors, quickly understanding how their companies operate, enabling him to discuss the right funding options with them.”

Architecturally, the building has been sensitively designed to reflect the surrounding heritage assets and is a dynamic addition to the Piccadilly Basin, Manchester city centre streetscape. Infinitel goes above and beyond to help companies across the world during pandemic

Over two-thirds of businesses in the UK and EU have asked for help with telecommunications during nationwide lockdown

A recent report by Infinitel reveals that the telecoms business has helped companies across the UK, Europe and U.S. transition smoothly to a remote working environment, ensuring their business continuity is not affected during the Covid-19 pandemic. The Wigan-based company shares how its services have helped businesses across the world continue to operate by implementing cloud-based VoIP solutions, allowing organisations of all sizes to switch to remote working without sacrificing productivity.

Since the lockdown restrictions in March, Infinitel has more than doubled its turnover due to the sheer volume of companies becoming a remote workforce almost overnight. They have necessitated a telephony solution which keeps them connected with customers and employees in this ‘new norm’ working environment.

Some of their findings revealed that over two-thirds of Infinitel’s new customers (78%) did not previously have the right tools, software and communication devices to help them work remotely. Compared to 22% who had already taken steps into adopting new technology.

With this being a global pandemic, companies headquartered in the UK with offices overseas and businesses based in Europe and the USA, have all called upon Infinitel due to their international coverage. Infinitel has helped organisations with offices located in cities including London, Liverpool, Manchester, Berlin, Munich, Paris, Barcelona, Los Angeles and New York to replace their traditional on-premise telephone systems and upgrade to the latest cloud-based VoIP technology. 55% of their customers discovered them online and utilised their services to help them replace their phone system and implement solutions including 3CX and Direct Routing for Microsoft Teams.

Managing Director at Infinitel, Andrew Platt, shared how their services have helped businesses keep in touch with their customers and employees:

“Infinitel’s great value Cloud-based VoIP phone systems have helped businesses across the world adapt to remote working as users can work from anywhere with an internet connection using smartphone apps for iOS and Android or desktop apps for Windows and Mac.”

“Cloud-based VoIP phone systems provide all the features of a traditional phone system; without requiring any on-premise hardware. Saving businesses, the time and money they would historically spend to install and maintain an on-premise phone system. We offer our customers cost-effective solutions which means they can take advantage of the latest technology without worrying about making a large investment.”

Infinitel aims to provide high quality services at an affordable cost, giving businesses across the world the tools they need to adjust to remote working without breaking the bank. Unlike most cloud-based phone systems which are charged ‘per user’ Infinitel’s pricing is based on the number of concurrent calls needed; helping businesses make big savings on their monthly telecommunications bills.

Enabling remote working for a global workforce:

The telecom experts have delivered solutions for a range of companies who have been impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic. Their clients include TravelZoo and Switzerland Tourism whose industry was hit hardest by the impact of lockdown and limitations of travel.

Infinitel has completed a significant communications upgrade for Travelzoo, a global internet media company that publishes exclusive offers and experiences for members – replacing its legacy telephony platform and enabling telephony for Microsoft Teams.

Travelzoo required a cloud-based solution that delivered unified communications – allowing its employees to make phone calls, hold audio and video conferences and communicate via email or instant messaging – all from one single platform.

The telecommunications provider delivered a Direct Routing for Microsoft Teams solution that allows Travelzoo’s global workforce to make calls to external landlines and mobile phones from Microsoft Teams.

Principal Network Engineer, Karl Hope at Travelzoo, commented on how Infinitel’s services have improved their remote working:

“Working with Infinitel has given us the opportunity to overlook our current business processes and it has allowed us to make decisions which will help improve our company growth. We have been able to save a significant amount of money from shutting down our previous legacy phone system and investing in Microsoft Teams software.”

“Infinitel offered us a cloud-only based solution for telephony that worked seamlessly with Microsoft Teams. We were very impressed with their service as they offer good value compared with purchasing numbers directly from Microsoft and offer local numbers in our office locations, unlike Microsoft.”

Recent research made by the telecommunications provider reveals that SBC and Microsoft licensing costs companies up to £3000 for initial setup and then a further £460 a year for the SIP channels. Many businesses have tried to find a cost-effective solution by researching this on their own however many shortly realised that there are a lot of hidden licensing costs. However, Infinitel made sure that they supported businesses during these difficult times by halving their setup costs and providing a budget plan which allows companies to pay a fee which was affordable for their business.

IT Director for Europe and Africa at the ONE Campaign, Matt Connatty, commented on how he has learnt to manage an international business from home:

“Our main office is in Washington DC in the USA but we have offices locations based in London and Berlin. Our Berlin previously used a physical PABX system in their office, which has no options for remote usage. However, since upgrading our systems through Infinitel’s technical guidance, we have been able to operate as usual while we are working from home.”

Director at Cloudbox, Nick Goodenough commented on how the telecoms upgrade has improved their business :

“We received excellent technical support, and Infintel provided us with useful guidance to ensure we got the Microsoft Teams configuration correct. In addition to providing us with UK and South African Direct Routing SIP Trunks and numbers. We found using this new software has improved our business globally.”

Diagnostic Healthcare secures six-figure funding for new CT scanner

0

Manchester-based medical diagnostic imaging provider, Diagnostic Healthcare, has purchased a new mobile CT scanner to help a Stockport NHS Foundation Trust in its fight against COVID-19, after securing a funding package of over £200,000 from Lombard Asset Finance.

CT scans have been used during the pandemic to assess the impact the virus has on patients’ lungs. However, in order to limit the spread of COVID-19, hospitals have been required to reserve some of their CT scanners for coronavirus patients only, reducing the number of machines available to non-COVID patients.

To meet this shortfall, Diagnostic Healthcare, which provides its services to NHS Trusts across England, acted quickly and responded to the immediate need by placing the new mobile CT scanner outside the Stockport NHS Foundation Trust for non-coronavirus patients who require its services.

By placing the scanner outside, patients are not required to enter the hospital and therefore potential cross-contamination of COVID is limited.

For NHS Trusts, which only need equipment such as the CT scanner for a limited period of time, hiring healthcare solutions from Diagnostic Healthcare is a cost-effective alternative to purchasing expensive equipment. Mobile scanners can be installed quickly to accommodate capacity issues and removed equally quickly when the demand has been fulfilled. This flexibility allows Diagnostic Healthcare to support many Trusts and supports the NHS in meeting its referral to treatment times.

Diagnostic Healthcare is based in Manchester and is an independent sub-contractor for the NHS. It has regional centres in Northwest, Midlands, Yorkshire and Essex, and employs more than 150 people.

Liat Karni, CEO at Diagnostic Healthcare, said “COVID-19 brought new challenges and forced the NHS to adapt quickly to changes. Having access to scanners like these have played a key role in Trusts’ quick response.
“But even pre and post-coronavirus, being able to supply important equipment like CT and MRI scanners as an interim solution is hugely beneficial for Trusts looking to increase capacity for a limited time without having to use vital capital and clinical staff resource. We’d like to thank Lombard for their continued support.”

Ritu Vaish, Senior Relationship Manager at Lombard Asset Finance, said: “Diagnostic Healthcare, which has been a customer for more than five years, is an important partner to the NHS and its dedication to helping hospitals battle COVID-19 is exemplary. We take great pride in being able to support its purchase of a new CT scanner which is a valuable new asset for the company.”

Karen’s experience will make her an invaluable asset for the team as we continue growing our client-base by attracting work away from the bigger, more impersonal and less cost effective local and national firms”.

Decade of exports sees North West firms secure £5.5bn from Japan

North West firms have demonstrated significant appetite to expand into the Japanese market in recent years, with more than £5.5bn of goods exported into the region in the last decade, according to analysis by Deloitte.

Research from the business advisory firm, in partnership with MIDAS and GMCA, reveals that between 2010 and 2019, North West firms exported an average of £550m per year to Japan as the region aimed to strengthen trading relationships. In total, four years saw figures in excess of £650m, with 2012 exports the highest during the decade at £795m.

As part of this trading relationships have been strengthened across a wide range of sectors. Chemical products accounted for the highest, with the £3.4bn worth of exports during the decade representing 62 per cent of total trade. Behind this, machinery and transport (£1.3bn) and manufacturing (£765m) also saw significant interest.

Interest in manufacturing products especially has continued to grow year on year, with 2019’s figures the highest since 2014, which saw £780m of goods exported.

The UK has also demonstrated its commitment to building on this valuable trading relationship in recent months, agreeing the UK-Japan Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement in September 2020. Across the country, the deal could increase trade by £15.2bn, giving a £1.5bn boost to the economy and increasing workers’ wages by £800m.

Japan has been a key area of focus for Deloitte in the North West for a number of years. In 2018, Global Employer Services Partner Jo Ahmed was appointed as the Honorary Consul of Japan in Manchester, while the firm has hosted annual Japanese Business Dinners celebrating the links between the two areas since 2011.

Jo Ahmed said: “Japan represents an enormous growth opportunity for many businesses in the North West, both in terms of direct exports and ongoing collaboration and joint ventures. As we have seen, there has been a huge amount of appetite and investment from Japanese businesses in North West products, which has brought with it significant economic benefits for the local area.

“With Japan’s wealth of experience in the low carbon sector, the country represents a hugely valuable partner when it comes to meeting Greater Manchester’s ambitious carbon neutral targets by 2038. We have already seen inward investment focused on Clean Growth, with a consortium including Kansai Electric Power taking a 50 per cent stake in Electricity North West in July last year.

“This, coupled with the UK-wide free trade agreement, highlights the opportunities that Japan presents to the region’s businesses, and we expect to see both export and import figures grow as this relationship develops in the coming years.”
