LOVELL CELEBRATES A RETURN TO MIDDLETON WITH THE LAUNCH OF EDEN PARK

THREE years after completing its popular Green Bank development, Lovell Homes has returned to Middleton with the launch of its brand-new community Eden Park.

Offering a mix of 55 two, three, and four-bedroom homes, ideal for first time buyers, growing families, and those looking to downsize, four plots have been released for sale with early bird reservations also available.

Anne-Marie O’Doherty, regional sales director at Lovell Homes, said: “It is great to be in Middleton following the success of Green Bank in 2019. Not only is this a fantastic location that has excellent commuter links to Manchester, but it is an area of previously low housing availability, meaning there is a real need for a mix of property types.

“With just 55 homes, it will have a real close-knit feel that will really help add to that sense of community from day one.”

Four plots have been initially released for sale, with prices starting from £279,950. Early bird reservations are also available on additional plots. Property enquiries and appointment only viewings can be booked here.

Eden Park comes hot on the heels of two successful development launches in the region; Spinners Quarter in Salford and The Gateway in Ancoats.

UK’s no 1 supplier of Caribbean food & drink celebrates barbecuing in autumn

It may be autumn and thoughts of summer barbecues are just a distant memory, but there is no question that the temperatures are milder than previous years so al-fresco dining has carried on well into the autumn this year.

And with the World Cup just around the corner and lots of football fans looking to entertain friends and family while they cheer on the Three Lions, the UK’s number one supplier of Caribbean food and drink believes it’s never too late in the year to cook outside.

Grace Foods UK is offering foodies in Manchester and the northwest the chance to celebrate National Jerk Day and be in with the chance of winning a premium barbecue worth £349 and two cases of Grace Jamaican-style Jerk BBQ sauce and Dunn’s River Seasoning, which are the perfect sauces and seasonings to marinade meat, fish and vegetables before cooking them on a barbecue.

Vandu Patel, Marketing Manager at Grace Foods UK, says: “We are in the middle of autumn so it may seem a bit strange to be talking about barbecue but it has been an incredibly mild autumn so far and people have continued dining outside to make the most of the weather.

“But everything feels a bit strange this year, particularly with the World Cup taking place so late in the year for the very first time. At Grace, we celebrated National Jerk Day this week, which celebrates the Jamaican way of seasoning and grilling food. The jerk style of cooking originated in Jamaica and our Jamaican-style Jerk BBQ Sauce and Jamaican Jerk Seasonings are one of the original jerk sauces to be available in the UK.

“So we thought why not celebrate National Jerk Day by giving our followers on Instagram the chance to win a barbecue worth £349 and two cases of Grace Jamaican-style Jerk BBQ sauce and Dunn’s River Seasoning. We may seem crazy but there has been lots of change this year so we thought why not follow the trend!”

All eyes on opticians’ new look to mark 6th anniversary

0

AN OPENSHAW opticians is about to undergo a £200,000 transformation to mark its 6th anniversary, which is set to transform the experience provided to the local community from early November.

The makeover of Specsavers in Lime Square Retail Park, will allow for more eye health, hearing health and contact lens appointments to be offered to customers than ever before.

To help the team of opticians and audiologists meet increasing customer demand, the store will expand the number of testing rooms from three to five, add an extra diagnostic area, a dedicated collection and adjustments bar as well as an extra dispensing unit.  A new visual fields machine will also be installed, which will enable the team to work with the DVLA to deliver drivers’ medical visual field and visual acuity testing for both ordinary drivers and vocational drivers licence holders.

In anticipation of the expansion, the store has recruited two new pre-registration optometrists and three new optical assistants and plans to make further appointments when the refit has been completed.

Rachel Harrison, retail director at Specsavers Openshaw, says: ‘Since we opened in 2016, we’ve steadily grown our customer base and as the local community increases, we need to invest in improving and updating our facilities to ensure we continue to deliver the highest standards of eye care and hearing care.

‘We’re so excited to be expanding and refreshing the store.  Our priority is to further enhance the customer experience and, with the changes we’re proposing, we’re sure customers will reap the benefits. We can’t wait to show off our new look in late autumn.’

The new-look store will feature five testing rooms, kitted out with state-of-the-art equipment including the latest hospital grade Optical Coherence Tomograpy (OCT) scanner, which helps an optometrist view the health of the eyes in greater detail. The hospital-grade technology can also help detect treatable eye conditions such as diabetic retinopathy and macular degeneration sooner.

Company Supports Charity Event for Manchester Hospitals

0

A MANCHESTER company is supporting a fundraising event which will raise funds to benefit thousands of patients across the North West.

Happy Linen are sponsoring this year’s Lantern Walk – a challenge run by Manchester Foundation Trust Charity which will see walkers taking to the picturesque Heaton Park in north Manchester for a sponsored hike. The Charity fundraises for 10 hospitals in the Greater Manchester area, including Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital.

Ahead of the event, one of the supporters has spoken about her son’s diagnosis at the children’s hospital and how the family are all so grateful for the treatment he received.

Hollyoaks actress Kelly Condron is sharing her story in the hopes it will encourage others to sign up to the Lantern Walk, which is taking place next month.

“Ever since George’s treatment at Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital we’ve done whatever we can to raise money for them,” said Kelly.

“The Lantern Walk last year was absolutely brilliant. It truly is magical seeing all the lanterns twinkling in the dark at the end of the walk. And Heaton Park is such a beautiful place to walk around.

“It’s a really accessible and family-friendly event too. I’d encourage anyone to take part.”

George Condron, aged 11, has been diagnosed with Barrett’s oesophagus, having suffered from reflux since he was a baby. The condition, which is more common in older people, can cause indigestion and heartburn. Some sufferers have difficulty swallowing food. A less common side effect is having reflux – where food comes back up from the stomach into the food pipe.

Unfortunately, George’s symptoms are bad acid reflux and this has caused damage to his oesophagus. Procedures to help widen and stretch it have been performed by surgeons at Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital.

Kelly, 39, explained: “He’s had about 10 procedures at the hospital to stretch his oesophagus and help with his swallowing. His first operation was about five or six years ago, so we’re semi-regulars now. We’ve spent quite a lot of time in the children’s hospital.

“He’s been through so much with his Barrett’s oesaphagus and he’s been in and out of hospital a lot. But we do feel very grateful that we get to take him home after relatively short stays. Some families don’t get to do that. It’s those families I often think of and want to help.

“Entering the hospital can be scary at first, but when you get to know the teams and speak to other parents, it becomes normality. The medical experts and the Play Team are so good with George – they got to know him and what he needed to make him less nervous. Honestly, I can’t thank them enough for everything they have done. They feel like extended family now.”

Kelly, George, his little sister Matilda, seven, and dad Adam, 43, have all joined in fundraising to support Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital since George’s diagnosis.

Kelly, who plays Zara Morgan in Hollyoaks, said: “We’ve done the Charity’s dressing up days and cake sales with James Brindley School. Whatever we can do to say a ‘thank you’ to everyone involved in George’s care.”

This year’s Lantern Walk will see hundreds of parents, children and families do a sponsored walk taking in Heaton Hall, The Temple and the beautiful Heaton Park gardens. Participants can choose from one of two accessible routes – either a 2km or 5km course.

Viv Williamson, Manchester Foundation Trust Charity’s Senior Events Manager, said: “We know there are many children like George out there who have had a scary time in hospital made more comfortable, and even a joyful experience, thanks to our brilliant NHS staff at our hospitals.

“It will be such a special moment when we see everyone at Heaton Park to celebrate these wonderful hospitals and raise some much-needed money to fund treatment, research and care projects for hospital services across Greater Manchester.”

This year’s event is kindly sponsored by children’s bedding and homeware brand, Happy Linen Company. The company produces a range of affordable bedding and matching homeware accessories designed to inspire little ones’ imaginations.

Amar Gangani, Managing Director at Happy Linen Company said: “This is such a special event and we’re proud to support the charity as sponsors of the Lantern Walk.

“We can’t wait to see all the families taking part and meet some of the amazing supporters whose lives have been touched by the hospitals in the Manchester Foundation Trust Charity family. We’ll look forward to seeing you all there!”

Registration is just £4 for adults and children aged four and over. Walkers can pre-register for a free fundraising guide, packed full of hints and tips.

All money raised from the event will ensure Manchester Foundation Trust Charity can fund treatment, research and care projects throughout its family of ten NHS hospitals, clinical services and local care organisations. The hospitals in this family are: North Manchester General Hospital; Manchester Royal Infirmary; Wythenshawe Hospital; Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital; Manchester Royal Eye Hospital; Saint Mary’s Hospital; University Dental Hospital of Manchester; Withington Community Hospital; Trafford General Hospital and Altrincham Hospital.

Managing Director celebrates 25 years of service at UK Circuits

0

A contract electronics manufacturer is celebrating an employee’s 25 years of service as the business marks a buoyant period of growth.

Managing Director Marc Ellis started at Middleton-based UK Circuits and Electronics Solutions (UKC) as a 16-year-old engineering apprentice back in 1997, the same year the company was founded. He has remained at the firm ever since, gradually progressing through the ranks of management. In 2019, he took over the helm as MD, having previously worked in managerial roles across several departments including purchasing and later, operations.

Quickly demonstrating his technical ability as an engineer testing the company’s printed circuit boards, Marc eventually progressed to more senior positions, including Purchasing Manager and later, Operations Manager. It was in these roles that Marc developed his communication skills, often liaising between customers and the production department to ensure a streamlined service for UKC’s wide, established client base covering numerous sectors including industrial, lighting, automotive, rail, pest control and defence.

During his time working for UKC, Marc has been recognised for his contribution to the business, his hard work ethic and professional manner.

He has witnessed the firm go from strength to strength to become a leading player in the contract electronic manufacturer’s market and has also seen it overcome many changes synonymous with a growing business. There have also been challenges, including the 2008 recession, and later the pandemic which hit just after he became Managing Director. As a service provider, UKC remained continually open during lockdown to ensure service agreements were being carried out.

Marc said: “On reflection, the timing wasn’t perhaps the best for me to become MD of a company but being thrown a few curveballs and dealing with many difficult situations ultimately made me become a more effective one. During COVID we remained open for business, and I had to ensure the wellbeing of a lot of working as well as furloughed staff while maintaining production levels. But I’ve always believed that going through difficult times is an opportunity to learn and improve, which has always served me well.

“Manufacturing is a great sector to work in, I love dealing directly with our customers and suppliers. I also wouldn’t have wanted to learn anywhere else, and I look forward to what the future holds at UKC.”

Simon Deacon, Director of UKC said: “Marc has without doubt shown what he is capable of over the past 25 years here to become an integral and invaluable part of the business. Since joining us, Marc has played a key role in helping UK Circuits earn a reputation for delivering the highest quality service to our customers. He continues to do so today with passion and a wealth of knowledge that only 25 years in the sector can provide.

“On behalf of everyone at UKC, we want to a say a huge thank you to Marc and his outstanding service to the business and our customers.”
