It’s been an exceptional year for Tristone Healthcare as they see a huge revenue rise

The buy and build investment group has had an exceptional year as the revenue across Tristone Healthcare’s portfolio of business has risen by 40% whilst they continue to back social care providers across the UK.

In 2022, revenue rose from £16.16 million to £22.6 million across the Tristone community – which includes Premier Care Management, ProCare Wales, Sportfit Support Services, CFS Care, Juventas Services, Dimensions Care, Seaside Care Homes, and Beyond Limits. This follows the announcement at the end of 2022 that Tristone Capital has acquired K Bond Healthcare Ltd (trading as Next Steps), completing a trio of deals in 2022 for the social care investment group.

In a year of continued expansion, Tristone’s portfolio has seen employee numbers grow from 364 to 616. In total, the community of businesses has supported 440 people over the course of the year and can now care for up to 172 children and young people, together with 88 adults across a range of services. In addition, residential care capacity grew by two-thirds; community living increased by 180%; and the community educated 24 young people. Semi-independent accommodation and fostering placements remained steady for the portfolio in 2022.

Tristone founder and CEO, Yannis Loucopoulos, said: “It’s been a truly exceptional year across our community of businesses, as we continue to strive for growth, while at the same time placing the delivery of outstanding quality at the forefront of everything we do.

“The pressures being placed on the social care system are well documented and run deep, making the role of our community even more important. In early 2023, the Government is expected to publish its long-awaited recommendations, following the Independent Review into children’s social care. For many in our community, this will provide an important indicator about the future direction of the sector in the coming months.”

In 2022, Tristone made significant investment into its community, launching a social value platform. This enables Tristone to capture, measure and demonstrate the social value generated across the group. In addition, a team from across the Tristone community of businesses cycled from London to Paris, raising £20,000 for children’s charity, The Rainbows Trust.

Loucopoulos added: “We’re extremely proud of the considerable efforts made by our community of businesses in 2022, and the positive impact they continue to have on the lives of those individuals they care for. 2023 is set to be another challenging year – both for the sector and the economy as a whole – and we are firmly committed to supporting those businesses, and employees, who are passionate about making a real difference and helping people in need.”

Allow Adult Education to give you a bright start in 2023

By learning new skills through the Manchester Adult Education Service you can start the New Year the right way. It’s never been easier to gain new skills, develop talents you already have or pick up something entirely new with a range of courses that are tailored exactly to you.

There are FREE courses available for English, maths and computer courses and many vocational courses such as childcare, community interpreting, higher level computer courses, adult health and social care are low cost or no cost.

Louise, 41, embarked on her journey with MAES after she was made redundant during the pandemic. After completing qualifications in maths and English she has gone on to study for a Level 2 qualification in Adult Social Health.

She said: “I don’t think people realise there’s that much help out there. There’s a lot of people who want to change careers and I don’t think they realise all the opportunities available. I’ve got all this help and I have been enjoying it.”

After enrolling in a course students will have support through the process via a tutor in order for them to get the most out of adult education.

Chantelle found this support especially useful after she began her training not long after having a child.

She said: “My tutor knew I had the potential to go further. She said when we were doing assignments ‘I know you can do more’. Through that I ended up coming out with A*s. That’s why I’ve come on to do my Level 3 qualification now.”

Between January 9 – 14 new students are able to enrol with MAES. You are able to book your enrolment slot online, or call into your nearest learning centre to do it in person.

Full details on how to enrol can be found at www.manadulted.org.uk

Councillor John Hacking, Executive Member for Skills, Employment and Leisure said: “We know just how important education can be when it comes to opportunities in life. Through the adult education service we hope to empower thousands of Mancunians to change their lives and pursue ambitions no matter what their background.

“This isn’t just about getting a new qualification though. There are so many more benefits to this service, whether they be gaining confidence, becoming more digitally savvy, or getting that knowledge to help the kids with their homework.

“With enrolment opening in the New Year it’s a fantastic time for anyone to make that positive change, learning something new and start 2023 off on the best note possible.”

Simple Ways to Increase Your Employee Productivity

0

Do you want to ensure that your teams and employees are extremely productive? Well, employee productivity has a direct correlation to how they are treated.  And in this post, we’re going to share simple yet effective tips that will contribute to boosting employee productivity in your workplace.

Delegate the Right Way

It all starts with you, the manager. If you think that your team can do everything in anything, you might want to think again. As far as human employees are concerned, this is definitely not the case. You really want to ensure you know your employee. Any ‘know’ we mean the ability to understand their skill sets and delegate accordingly. Have you ever had the situation where you yourself were delegated to do a certain task which was outside of your level of competence? Not the best feeling, you agree? The key here is to keep in mind that not everybody is created equal. So, the onus is on you to find out who has strengths and weaknesses, delegate accordingly, and watch the overall workplace productivity grow.

Provide the Right Technology Tools

Being productive isn’t only knowing your responsibility area and completing the tasks in a timely manner. It’s also knowing whether you have the right tech tool at your fingertips and being able to utilize them if need be. So many times, managers actually don’t do this. All they have are tools that prove to be non-operational and thus useless in lots of situations. So, your responsibility is to put your hands on the right instruments, those that will be well-suited to your company and staff’s needs. You might consider having some share-point sites that people can go to for one document to update, not multiple ones, which might confuse workers. It also would be a wise choice to have dedicated productivity monitoring software in place to be able to gauge what you’re striving for. Make sure all printers, copiers, and other equipment work properly. Even some minor equipment failure or system glitch may negatively affect your workplace productivity by causing downtimes and unwanted halts.

Provide Meaningful Feedback

Having regularly scheduled interval feedback sessions is crucial for your employee performance. Feedback is not only about giving all the praise but also the ability to use constructive criticism and pointing to your team’s weaknesses without offending or discouraging them. ‘Hey, here’s what we can improve upon’ would sound much better and more motivating than ‘Now, let’s review your failures.’ Also, make sure to ask for your employees’ opinions and assessment of the situations you’re trying to improve on. Don’t go with the hidden agenda since you’re not going to trap anybody but provide meaningful assessment and help people get better on what they are doing. As a manager, that is your job to guide your team in the right direction, single out the areas where they excel, and show what requires their special attention.

Cross-Train

Cross-train your employees! Not at a gym but at work, of course. The worst thing about not being productive is when one person, who knows the answers, finds themselves unable to do the work of other team members who have the same job functions. So, with cross-training, you want to get your employees the same job functions and duties to get a feel for what their colleagues are doing. So, if they have a specialty where they focus a lot on a particular task, you should make sure that other people on the team know how to cope with it, too. You should always remember that there are vacations and sick days when managers need to mobilize their reserves and assign staff to other departments and reassign multiple tasks. And for this process to be as smooth as possible, you want to devote due attention to cross-training your employees.

Be a Great Leader

People will always follow what the tone from the top is doing. So, you really need to lead by example. Be a great leader and set the right tone for those who report to you. If you want people to develop certain qualities, pick up certain skills, or have certain values, you don’t have to frame it but demonstrate it instead. Remember, you can’t just talk the talk, you need to walk the talk!

A tech hub is being created in the historic Campfield market buildings

Two historic Manchester city centre buildings are being transformed into a modern hub for growing media and tech firms using £17.5m of Levelling Up funding.

The Council has entered into legal agreements with development partner Allied London for the Grade II-listed Upper Campfield Market and Lower Campfield Market buildings on Liverpool Road.  Allied London will repair, refurbish and fit out these heritage buildings to create a new Campfield tech, media and creative industries hub within St. John’s which will be operated by its managed workspace platform All Work & Social. A third building, Castlefield House owned by Allied London, will also be repositioned as part of the masterplan to provide complementary workspace for tech and media businesses.

Campfield is one of two schemes which together formed the Culture In The City project which the Council was awarded almost £20m of Government Levelling Up funding in autumn 2021. The remaining £2.2m will see three heritage railway arches, between arts venue HOME and Whitworth Street West, converted into a creative talent development centre to be operated by HOME. More details of this will be announced in the new year.

Campfield will attract and support start-up, recovery and scale-up businesses in the tech, innovation and media sectors.

The Campfield market buildings will provide 83,000 sq. ft. of modern workspace including a minimum of 400 hot desks plus meeting rooms, event spaces and other facilities accessible on a permanent occupier or drop-in basis.

Over a 15-year period, it is anticipated that 1,600 jobs will be created and a further 2,400 jobs sustained.

The project will build on the success of the Exchange Tech Hub in the Bonded Warehouse and form part of wider plans for Enterprise City in St John’s including the ABC Building, the Globe Building, and Manchester Goods Yard which is already the home of Booking.com and Cloud Imperium Games.

Work on Campfield will start in the new year and be completed by spring 2024.

Council Leader Cllr Bev Craig said: “Campfield is an exciting initiative which will see these two heritage buildings help play a dynamic part in Manchester’s future, giving innovative businesses an affordable place to flourish and helping to create the jobs of tomorrow.

“Having a location in the heart of the city centre, as part of a cluster of similar businesses, will create an environment where tech, media and creative entrepreneurs – whether they are starting up or scaling up – can network and share inspiration.

“Manchester has always been a city of innovation and creativity. Campfield will help ensure it continues to be.”

Michael Ingall, Chairman & Chief Executive of Allied London, stated: “This project is important, firstly to get two historic buildings back into a sustainable use and, secondly, it’s a project to further develop the tech, media and creative sectors in the heart of Manchester, providing more affordable and supported infrastructure and services whilst establishing interesting  public areas in the buildings for the wider community’s benefit.

“We have researched as well as visited several precedent developments such as New Lab, Brooklyn, Station F, Paris,  LocHal, Tilburg, and Palermo, Uruguay,  as part of our consideration for the design and what can be achieved, and are confident of delivering a very impactful project for Manchester.”

Tanya Grady, Commercial Director of All Work & Social, the managed workspace operator, said: “At Department Bonded Warehouse we have firmly established the acclaimed Exchange programme for start-ups and scale-ups where, working with Tech Nation, we have had a great number of successes in our annual cohorts. We are now in our fourth year having supported the founding and growth of over 120 fledgling businesses.  Campfield will allow us to supersize the Exchange programme and provide more support services around these businesses, and we are excited to be able to build on this success.”

A major upgrade has been completed by Spencer Group to revive a rail depot

The Spencer Group has transformed Manchester International Depot into a modern train service and stabling facility with major upgrades.

Spencer Group M&E was selected by Northern as its delivery partner for the building and facilities upgrade project to bring the maintenance depot back to life.

The depot was built in the early 1990s as part of a plan to operate international Eurostar train services from Manchester to Europe via the Channel Tunnel. However, the plan never came to fruition and the depot has remained underused.

It has been used by a variety of train firms over the years for commissioning new fleets, but not as an active, working depot.

Now, Spencer Group has delivered extensive upgrades which will enable Northern to use the depot as a vital servicing and stabling facility for its fleet of trains. It will accommodate Northern’s new Class 323 electric units, supporting services in the Manchester area.

The extra stabling capacity at the upgraded depot, which features two roads, two sets of tracks and a 300m-long storage facility, will also alleviate congestion at other depots, further improving services.

Hull-based Spencer Group has removed all redundant and life-expired equipment. It has self-delivered elements of the £1.8m project including the installation of bespoke Control Emission Toilet (CET) facilities, energy efficient LED lighting, heating ventilation and air conditioning, CCTV and a new fire alarm system.

Dan Whittle, Spencer Group’s Operations Director (M&E), said: “We’re delighted to have completed these major upgrade works to Manchester International Depot on behalf of our client, Northern.

“This project is an example of Spencer Group providing a complete solution which meets our client’s needs. We’ve taken it from feasibility to implementation and completion utilising our in-house design capabilities. We’ve also developed and installed a bespoke CET system ourselves, based on extensive research.

“Our skillset means we can deliver projects like this in their entirety. We’re adaptable and flexible too, meaning we’re able to tailor our delivery to the client’s needs.”

David Manifold, Spencer Group’s Principal Design Engineer, said: “We’ve worked in close collaboration with Northern from the very first stages of this project, providing detailed designs for all their requirements.

“We’ve also been able to identify and implement maintenance and energy saving improvements throughout the design process, ensuring the depot will be a modern, fit-for-purpose facility.

“These works are a further demonstration of Spencer Group’s wide-ranging, multi-disciplinary capabilities to deliver projects like this from start to finish.”

Northern and Network Rail are also planning to re-energise the depot’s overhead electric wires.

Craig Wood, Northern’s Project Manager, said: “These works to upgrade Manchester International Depot will have a positive impact on services across the region.

“We’ve worked with Spencer Group before and they have an outstanding reputation across the industry for their professionalism and the quality of their work.

“They’re extremely focused on safety, which is clearly of paramount importance in the rail industry, and we’ve been really impressed with their work.”

Proposals for the regeneration of the former Central Retail Park are now being consulted

The former Central Retail Park is now open for a six-week consultation (Wednesday 4 January 2023) seeking residents’ and business’ feedback.

A report announcing a refreshed Strategic Regeneration Framework (SRF) for the former retail site was heard by the Council’s Executive in December, updating a previous SRF that was agreed by the Council in 2020.

There is a renewed commitment that the regeneration of the former Central Retail Park will create a high-quality, sustainable office district with attractive public realm at its heart. It will deliver significant new employment opportunities for the city and the local community.  The draft Strategic Regeneration Framework sets out a new vision for the development of the site with a focus on:

  • New office and workspaces – the site could be home to around 8,000 jobs and contribute to the continued regeneration of the Ancoats neighbourhood and help meet growing demand in this part of the city.
  • Green spaces – Developing this site will create a new public link through to the adjacent Cotton Field Park and create a green space at the heart of the low-carbon commercial district. The new public realm, which would be open to all, could provide a range of spaces from terraced lawns and informal seating to lush planting.
  • Retail and leisure spaces – the vision includes spaces for shops and cafés, providing attractive new facilities for local residents, visitors and the new working population on the site.
  • Connectivity – the vision promotes new and improved links for pedestrians and cyclists in the area, making it easier, safer and more attractive to walk or cycle into the city or towards key transport hubs. The site’s proximity to Manchester’s main transport routes will make it a prime location for future business.

The Government Property Agency (GPA) is exploring options for delivering office solutions in Manchester, to meet the needs of various civil servant departments, which supports the Government’s commitment to locate more civil servants outside of London and support levelling up. Therefore, the new framework also responds to potential interest from the GPA to locate government offices on the site.

You can comment on the draft SRF by completing our consultation questionnaire: www.manchester.gov.uk/consultations

Drop-in events

We will be holding two public drop-in events as part of the consultation. These events are open to all, including local residents, businesses and other stakeholder organisations, with no need to book in advance.

Both these events will be held at Hallé St Peter’s (40 Blossom St, Ancoats, M4 6BF) on Tuesday 17 January 2023 and will be open from 12pm – 2:30pm and 5pm – 7pm.

These events are an opportunity to talk to the team, find out more and have your say.

If you have any questions about the consultation process, or if you would prefer to submit a consultation response via email, please get in touch with our consultation team:

The consultation is open until Tuesday 14 February 2023.

Cllr Bev Craig, Leader of Manchester City Council, said:

“We have an exciting opportunity in the former retail site to bring the long-term regeneration story of New Islington to a close, creating a flagship low carbon, green development that has the potential to create thousands of jobs.

“At the heart of our proposals is a green public space that will create a link between Great Ancoats and New Islington Marina for the first time, helping to celebrate Cotton Field Park behind.

“We want this to be a truly valuable investment to Manchester’s regeneration programme and a credit to the city centre. As such, we would encourage feedback on our proposals and invite as many

44% admit that their parents or older people continually roll their eyes or don’t take them seriously when they express a desire for certain perks or standards in a place of work.  So it’s no surprise that more than half (58%) of 18- to 29-year-olds agree that older Mancunians just don’t understand why attractive working packages are so important to them.

A whopping 89% believe that employers need to be more creative in terms of the working environment and perks that they offer, if they want to keep people happy in the modern age. One in three (32%) admit that lunch is the highlight of their working day, with 81% saying that it is important for them to have access to healthy meals at work. A third (32%) would like staff to have lunch together, while 29% would like bosses to lay on staff food once in a while and 20% want varied meeting food

Nearly half (43%) admit they get bored of having the same thing for lunch at the office every day, and would love to be munching on burritos (37%), noodles (35%) and sushi (30%) instead.  Fresh fruit such as strawberries (2925 pineapple (21%) and fresh mango (16%) also feature among young Mancunians idea of the most exciting office eats, alongside curries (27%), stuffed pitta breads (19%), Greek salad (14%) and poke bowls (9%).

VEGAN-ROO-ARY: DELIVEROO LAUNCHES A RANGE OF LIMITED-EDITION VEGAN SPECIAL DISHES FOLLOWING RESEARCH THAT SUGGESTS BRITS DON’T KNOW WHAT BEING VEGAN MEANS

  • Research conducted by Deliveroo reveals that over one-third of Brits don’t know what vegans can and can’t eat.
  • The survey also showed that Gen X (35-44 YOs) are most likely to know about vegan alternatives to meat and dairy products (51.1%)
  • As a result, new Veganuary specials will be available to order on Deliveroo for the first time, including wagamama’s Vegan ‘Chicken’ Kare Lomen.
  • There are now over 20,800 vegan and vegan-friendly restaurants on the app, a 17% increase from last year.
  • Acai Bowl from Juicebaby is the most popular vegan dish ordered on the platform.
  • London, Manchester, Brighton, Bristol and Leeds ordered the most vegan food on the platform in 2022 (as a proportion of their total orders)
  • Deliveroo has added a ‘Vegan’ category title to the app, making it easier for consumers to find or discover vegan products and dishes.

Deliveroo has launched its biggest-ever range of vegan specials that are now newly available on the app, as data commissioned by the food-delivery company shows that over one-third of Brits don’t know what vegans can eat.

Despite ‘Veganary’ being celebrated annually for the last ten years*,  it has been revealed that Brits are still confused about what vegans can and can’t eat. Deliveroo surveyed 2,000 Brits to find out what they thought being vegan really means – the data revealed that 18% (2 in 10) of Brits think that vegans can only eat fruit and vegetables and 8% said that vegans couldn’t eat meat, dairy or eggs, but could eat fish.

When asked which items from a list of meat and dairy products* had vegan alternatives, the survey found that Gen X (35-44 YOs) knew the most (51.1%) about what alternatives were available, whilst the Post War Generation knew the least (17.1%). Data also showed that Brits in the North East of England knew the least about vegan alternatives, with nearly 4 in 10 Brits (37.1%) saying that none of the products on the list had vegan alternatives.

Elena Devis, Vegan Category Lead, Deliveroo, said, “On our fourth consecutive year celebrating Veganuary, we’re delighted to see the continuous development of the plant-based space across independent, national and grocery partners.  As customers’ expectations around selection and value increase, we expect brands with exciting new launches, vegan meal deals, and promotions to see better results.

Last year,  we launched a new vegan tile and gave our partners the ability to add dietary labels to each of their menu items. This year, we will continue to improve our app to help Deliveroo users find delicious vegan food more easily wherever they are, and work with the best local restaurants and grocers to ensure everyone can find food that suits their dietary needs for breakfast, lunch and dinner.”

Toni Vernelli, Head of Communications at Veganuary, said, “We’re delighted to have the support of Deliveroo for the fourth year running and so excited to see all the new vegan dishes being launched on the platform for Veganuary! Our job is to help people try vegan for January – whether for the planet, animals or their health – and Deliveroo’s commitment to catering for this growing number of conscious consumers makes our job much easier!

The online food delivery service, which is a proud supporter of Veganuary, has reported that more restaurants than ever have introduced plant-based menus and dishes to their regular offering and there are now over 20,800 vegan and vegan friendly restaurants available on Deliveroo across the UK (17% increase from last year). According to the food-delivery company, the cities with the most vegan orders (as a proportion of their total orders) this year in order are: London, Manchester, Brighton, Bristol and Leeds.
