Introduction to Syscoin

Syscoin is a decentralized blockchain platform that is built for businesses. It was launched in 2014 and is based on the Bitcoin blockchain. Syscoin’s main focus is on scalability and speed, and it achieves this by using a hybrid proof-of-work (PoW) and proof-of-stake (PoS) consensus mechanism. This hybrid approach allows for faster transaction times and lower fees compared to other blockchain protocols.

Syscoin’s Main Features

Syscoin offers a number of features that make it an attractive option for businesses looking to leverage blockchain technology. One of the main features of Syscoin is its scalability. The platform can handle up to 140,000 transactions per second, which is significantly higher than Bitcoin’s 7 transactions per second. This makes it an ideal solution for businesses that need to process a large number of transactions quickly.

Another key feature of Syscoin is its interoperability. The platform is designed to be compatible with other blockchain protocols, which means that it can be used in conjunction with other blockchain networks. This makes it easier for businesses to integrate Syscoin into their existing systems and to take advantage of its benefits without having to completely overhaul their infrastructure.

Syscoin’s Benefits for DeFi

Syscoin’s scalability and interoperability make it an ideal choice for DeFi applications. The DeFi sector is growing rapidly, and there is a need for blockchain protocols that can handle the volume of transactions that DeFi platforms require. Syscoin’s speed and scalability make it a perfect fit for DeFi applications, as it can process transactions quickly and efficiently.

If you’re looking for the next big thing in DeFi, Syscoin is definitely worth keeping an eye on.

The Surge in Slip, Trip, and Fall Cases

0

Over the past few years, there has been a notable increase in reported slip trip and fall claims within Manchester businesses. This surge can be attributed to multiple factors including poor maintenance, inadequate risk assessment, and lack of training. Businesses across various sectors, from retail and hospitality to manufacturing and construction, have felt the impact, leading to an urgent call for effective prevention measures.

For example, Manchester council alone pay out more than £2 million a year as a result of slip trip and fall claims.

The Consequences for Businesses

The rise in these incidents poses significant challenges for businesses. Firstly, there are the direct financial implications resulting from legal costs, compensation payments, and increased insurance premiums. Moreover, these incidents can lead to operational disruption due to employee absenteeism and potential investigations. Finally, the negative publicity following such incidents can harm a business’s reputation, affecting customer trust and employee morale.

Proactive Risk Assessments

In response to the rising trend, Manchester businesses are increasingly prioritizing proactive risk assessments. This involves a comprehensive evaluation of the premises to identify potential hazards, such as wet or uneven floors, cluttered pathways, poor lighting, or inappropriate footwear. By identifying these hazards early, businesses can implement appropriate corrective measures, thereby preventing potential incidents.

Robust Training Programs

Training plays a vital role in preventing slip, trip, and fall incidents. Businesses are implementing robust training programs, educating employees about potential risks and safe work practices. This includes proper housekeeping, prompt reporting of hazards, and correct use of safety equipment. By fostering a culture of safety, businesses can significantly reduce the likelihood of such incidents.

Technological Solutions

In an era of technological advancement, many businesses are turning to innovative solutions to enhance safety. This includes smart flooring that can detect and alert about wet or slippery surfaces, wearables that can monitor and advise on safe movements, and AI-powered video analytics that can identify and alert about potential hazards in real-time.

Regulatory Compliance and Collaboration

Compliance with health and safety regulations is more important than ever for Manchester businesses. They are working closely with regulatory bodies to ensure adherence to the guidelines and benefit from the latest safety insights. Moreover, businesses are collaborating with each other, sharing best practices and learnings to collectively address this pressing issue.

Enhancing Public Awareness: A Key Step Forward

Public awareness is a critical element in reducing the instances of slips, trips, and falls within business establishments. Manchester businesses understand the importance of keeping their clients, customers, and visitors informed about potential hazards in their premises. They are employing visual cues, like signage and floor markings, to indicate areas where care should be taken. Moreover, public awareness campaigns highlighting the shared responsibility for safety can also play a significant role. By fostering a community-wide understanding of the issue, businesses can contribute to a safer environment for all.

A Holistic Approach: Involving All Stakeholders

The challenge of managing slip, trip, and fall hazards is not one that businesses can tackle alone. It requires the involvement of all stakeholders – from employees and customers to suppliers and regulatory bodies. Manchester businesses are striving for an inclusive approach, seeking inputs from various stakeholders to identify potential blind spots and implement effective solutions. For instance, employee feedback can highlight overlooked hazards, while regulatory bodies can provide updated guidelines and best practices. This holistic approach not only enhances the effectiveness of prevention strategies but also fosters a shared commitment to safety.

Looking to the Future: Continuous Improvement

Manchester businesses recognize that dealing with slip, trip, and fall incidents is not a one-time task, but a continuous process. They are committed to regular reviews and updates of their safety protocols, and investing in ongoing training and technological upgrades. The aim is to create a safe working environment that protects both employees and the business.

The rise in slip, trip, and fall incidents in Manchester has been a wake-up call for the business community. In response, businesses are adopting a multi-pronged approach, combining proactive risk assessment, comprehensive training, technological innovation, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement. Through these concerted efforts, Manchester businesses are demonstrating their commitment to safety, taking significant strides towards reducing and eventually eliminating these preventable incidents.

0

Seat Unique, the prominent online marketplace for premium tickets to live events, has successfully raised £7m in a Series A funding round led by Nickleby Capital, based in London.

Founded in 2018 by CEO Robin Sherry, Seat Unique serves as a direct connection between venues, clubs, and promoters and fans seeking the best tickets for top-quality live events in sports, music, and culture. The platform offers a safe, secure, and guaranteed space for transactions.

Nickleby Capital, a private investment office backed by experienced entrepreneurs, led the investment round, alongside existing investors such as Richard Flint (board member at LADBible Group and former CEO of Sky Bet) and Simon Murphy (serial entrepreneur, investor, and founder of the TFO Group). This Series A funding follows the impressive milestone of ticket sales on the platform surpassing £30m. Seat Unique has also established partnerships with over 40 of the largest venues, clubs, and promoters in the UK.

Empowering Technology-Enabled Access to Premier Seating

Despite launching just before the first national lockdown, Seat Unique has witnessed a significant post-Covid resurgence in the demand for live experiences, particularly in the premium ticketing category. In an era where material possessions are losing allure, live experiences have emerged as the ultimate luxury. With over 200,000 fans browsing the Seat Unique platform each month, individuals are seeking their next live event, whether it be witnessing historic sporting moments, captivating performances by world-class artists, or immersing themselves in the enchantment of theatre. A Secure Marketplace Ensuring Guaranteed Access

Seat Unique offers exclusive access to live events directly from the source, allowing only authorised sellers (clubs, venues, promoters, and rightsholders) to sell tickets on the platform. This guarantees access for all fans while providing a secure buying environment in an otherwise fragmented and untrusted offline market.

For rightsholders, Seat Unique empowers them by restoring control over premium inventory and hospitality. It introduces brand new audiences to sections of stadia and venues that were typically reserved for corporate clients. Importantly, Seat Unique opens up new revenue streams through its innovative and proprietary dynamic pricing software.

The Series A funding will enable Seat Unique to enhance its product offering, ensuring customers have an exceptional buying experience. Expressing delight over the successful Series A funding, Seat Unique CEO Robin Sherry said, “We are absolutely delighted to have completed our Series A with Nickleby Capital. From the beginning, Nickleby recognised the problem we were trying to solve and believed in our ability to solve it. The notable round of investment, especially in the current climate, not only highlights the opportunities ahead of us but also acknowledges the progress we have made since the marketplace’s launch and the foundation we built throughout 2020 to seize the opportunities that arose from Covid.”

Joining the Board of Seat Unique, Saav Shah, Managing Partner of Nickleby Capital, expressed excitement about the company’s value proposition in creating a new niche within a traditionally outdated market. He looks forward to being part of Seat Unique’s growth journey alongside Robin and the team.

An influencer talked about experiencing anxiety caused by Instagram, as she was presenting an unhealthy version of her life, which influenced others with its unrealistic portrayal. This is where the idea for ‘Filtered Reality’ originated,” explains Ellie Burke.

While acknowledging the positive aspects of social media, such as building connections and accessing valuable information, Ellie’s primary goal is to let others know they are not alone in their struggles, regardless of their nature.

As an artist, Ellie Burke strives to create engaging and thought-provoking music that provides an escape for her listeners. She made her debut on January 20th with her captivating single “The Moon” and followed it up with her enchanting sophomore release, “Together,” which delves into themes of devotion and love. These songs showcase a simple acoustic production accompanied by Ellie’s dreamy vocals.

Ellie incorporates the lyrical style of soft pop with lo-fi beats, resulting in a unique sound influenced by artists like Sasha Sloan and Olivia Dean. Recognised locally in Liverpool, Ellie Burke can often be found busking and performing at various venues and events. The Green Classroom: Teaching Kids about Native Plants

Our world’s tomorrow hinges on the understanding, actions, and commitments of our youth today. It is our responsibility to foster an environment conducive to learning about the importance of indigenous flora and nurturing a lifelong dedication to environmental care.

Exposing children to native plant gardening presents an extraordinary opportunity for hands-on, experiential learning bringing the abstract concepts of biology, ecology, and conservation into vivid reality.

Native plants are the backbone of our ecosystems, and by focusing our educational efforts on these plants, we provide children with a holistic understanding of the local environment and its intrinsic value.

Just as we emphasize teaching local history and culture, incorporating local flora into the curriculum connects students more deeply to their surroundings. In understanding the role of indigenous plants in maintaining the equilibrium of ecosystems, they’ll develop a robust appreciation for biodiversity and the delicate balance of nature.

What Are Native Plants?

Native plants are those that have naturally evolved in a specific region over thousands of years. They are perfectly adapted to local environmental conditions and play an integral role in ecosystems, supporting various wildlife species, including birds, insects, and mammals.

The Importance of Native Plants

Native plants have significant environmental benefits. They tend to require less water and no chemicals to thrive, which helps conserve water and maintain healthy soil conditions. Native plants also provide habitat and food sources for local wildlife species, supporting biodiversity. Teaching children about these benefits can help them understand the critical role native plants play in maintaining healthy ecosystems.

Native Plant Gardening: A Hands-on Learning Experience

Enabling children to get their hands dirty with native plant gardening is an exceptionally engaging teaching method. They can experience firsthand the symbiotic relationships between native plants, insects, birds, and other wildlife.

These experiences make lessons in biology, ecology, and conservation more tangible and also provide the students with invaluable life skills such as responsibility, patience, and an understanding of the cyclical nature of life.

Children can also learn about the historical and cultural significance of indigenous plants, tying in social studies and humanities lessons. Many native plants have been integral to local cultures for generations, whether for medicinal uses, food, or traditional practices.

Discovering these plants’ stories helps students understand the human-nature connection that has existed for centuries and continues to be relevant today.

Getting children involved in native plant gardening offers a tangible way for them to engage with these concepts. It’s one thing to learn about the life cycle of a plant from a textbook. It’s quite another to plant a seed, watch it grow, and observe the wildlife it attracts. This hands-on experience can deepen children’s understanding of ecological concepts and foster a sense of wonder and respect for the natural world.

Project-Based Learning

This dynamic classroom approach invites students to actively explore real-world problems and challenges. Incorporating native plant gardening into this method is a seamless process, providing students with a rich learning environment that pairs knowledge acquisition with practical application.

As part of a school project, students can be tasked with creating a native plant garden in their schoolyard or within the community.

Creating and managing a garden can entail comprehensive research on local plants, understanding the composition of soils best suited for each plant, sowing seeds or planting young plants, and the continuous maintenance of the garden.

This project offers a valuable means to understand the significant role native plants play in our ecosystem while also developing indispensable life skills such as project planning, team collaboration, problem-solving, and the exercise of responsibility.

Interconnected Learning across Disciplines

The beauty of native plant gardening lies in its versatility. It can be naturally woven into various curricular areas, enhancing the learning experience and providing a hands-on approach that solidifies understanding. Here are a few ways to incorporate it:

  • Science: The garden serves as a natural lab where students can learn about botany, ecosystem interrelationships, and biodiversity. They can observe, document, and track the various wildlife species their garden attracts.
  • Mathematics: Gardens are fertile ground for mathematical applications. Measurements become necessary when deciding plant spacing, soil volume calculations come into play when preparing the beds, and data analysis skills are honed when tracking plant growth patterns over time.
  • Language Arts: Gardening projects provide a rich source for writing assignments. Students can author reports or present findings about their garden project. Writing diaries, essays, or observations can enhance their communication skills while they document the growth of their project.
  • Art: Gardens are often a source of artistic inspiration. Students can capture the beauty of their plants through sketches, paintings, or even create a garden mosaic. Designing a unique logo for their gardening project can also foster creativity and a sense of ownership.
  • Social Studies: Gardening allows students to delve into the cultural history of specific native plants, providing an understanding of how civilizations have relied on and interacted with nature. Explorations into sustainable farming practices and conservation principles can further enhance their appreciation of the need for a sustainable coexistence with nature.

In essence, native plant gardening provides an all-encompassing learning experience that strengthens understanding across various disciplines. It is a practical, engaging, and enriching way to develop a deeper knowledge of the world we live in and our responsibility towards it.

The Rewards of Native Plant Gardening

Aside from the educational benefits, native plant gardening can also have social and emotional rewards for children. Gardening can be a calming and therapeutic activity, helping children connect with nature and take a break from screens.

Additionally, the sense of accomplishment that comes from creating and maintaining a garden can boost children’s confidence and self-esteem. They can literally see the fruits of their labor as their plants grow and thrive.

Creating Future Environmental Stewards

Native plant gardening gives children an understanding and appreciation of nature that can inspire them to become future environmental stewards. It shows them they can make a difference in protecting our planet, even through seemingly small actions like planting a native garden.

Through this hands-on learning experience, they’ll gain a deep appreciation of the interconnectedness of all living things. They’ll learn that by taking care of native plants, they’re also taking care of the birds, bees, and other wildlife that depend on these plants for survival. And they’ll see how their efforts can contribute to a healthier, more sustainable planet.

Teaching children about native plants and involving them in native plant gardening can have profound educational and environmental benefits. So why not grab some native plants, pull on your gardening gloves, and get planting with the kids today? It’s a fun, meaningful activity that can make a lasting impact on their lives and our planet. After all, as the proverb says, “The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second-best time is now.”
