VERNACARE GOES FOR DOUBLE IN NORTH WEST NHS AWARDS

0
Bolton-based Vernacare, a leader in hygienic patient care, has gained double recognition from The NHS in their North West Excellence in Supply Awards.
Vernacare has been shortlisted in both the Innovation and Patient Experience award categories.
Earlier this year, Vernacare launched its new space efficient Compact, which is the world’s smallest disposal unit for single-use patient washing and toileting containers. The Compact has been shortlisted for the innovation award due to its contribution to improving patient and staff safety by providing infection prevention at the point of care.
The company’s VernaFem female urinal has been shortlisted for the Patient Experience Award because of its important contribution to improving patient comfort, dignity and safety.  The product, which is another world first, is used by hundreds of NHS Trusts and healthcare facilities across 21 other countries to help prevent Healthcare Associated Infections (HCAIs) and Catheter Associated Urinary Tract Infections (CAUTIs).
Both products were developed at Vernacare’s Bolton R&D and production site, with support from NHS Trusts across the North West and wider UK. They are part of  the ‘Vernacare System’ of hygienic patient toileting and washing. This single-use system is used by 96% of NHS Trusts to improve the patient experience, reduce infection, save nurses’ time, improve environmental performance, save energy and reduce costs.
Phil Bradley, UK Commercial Director at Vernacare, said: “We are very proud to reach the final of  these prestigious awards. Our close partnership with the NHS is key to our success in developing innovative infection prevention products that assist productivity, safety and sustainability in modern healthcare. We are very grateful to the input of clinicians from North West Trusts and further afield in helping us to develop our new Compact disposal unit and the VernaFem female urinal.”
The awards final will take place in Blackpool on 19 October 2017.

CHAMBER LAUNCHES ASIAN BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT NETWORK

Greater Manchester Chamber held its first Asian Business Development Network event on Monday (October 9th) at Elliot House.

Reet Dhallu, Regional Membership Manager at the Chamber, said: “Over 36 businesses attended the event to network and hear more about what we want to achieve with the network.

“This is the first time that the Chamber has put on an event like this, which is all about engaging with the Asian business community and providing a platform for your business to connect with other Asian or non-Asian business within Greater Manchester and further field.

“We are also dedicated to communicating your business voice via a number of channels. As the largest chamber of commerce, with over 4,800 members, it’s hugely important to us to enhance diversity with our membership base.

“The network isn’t just for Asian businesses though; it is also for non-Asian businesses who are looking to work with Asian businesses.”

Another event is planned to take place in December with more to follow next year.

Raam Shanker, from Equitus Engineering, said: “The Asian Business Development Network launch is a welcome initiative by the Chamber, given the number of Asian origin businesses operating out of Greater Manchester, and it shows that diversity and representation are high on the agenda.

“The hope is that this will provide a platform for businesses like Equitus Engineering to gain a bit more visibility, and highlight the contributions the Asian community is making to the economy and society.”

Manchester gets a taste for dessert franchise with HSBC funding

0

Creams Café, a popular London-based dessert franchise, has expanded by opening two stores in Manchester with help of a £580,000 commercial loan from HSBC.

The gelato and dessert café, which has become hugely popular in London, sold a franchise to Manchester-based business SB Group. The funding from HSBC was used to purchase two sites in the heart of Manchester which will enhance the city’s presence in the north. Creams Café opened its first 1,550 sq ft café in Manchester’s Piccadilly Gardens area earlier this year along with its second 3,000 sq ft café in Cheetham Hill which officially opened its doors last month. SB Group expects to see a predicted turnover of £1.5 million in the first year.

The opening of the two new stores has helped create twenty new jobs for the local economy and will lead to a projected 4,500 customers per week.

The café offers customers a combination of new and extravagant desserts, including a variety of ‘freakshakes’ and deluxe waffles.

Speaking about the expansion plans, Store Manager, Poz Bal said: “The franchise offers the ability to create our own stamp on the North and we see great potential for further expansion across the north-west with the help of this funding.”

Sam Roden, HSBC’s Area Director for Greater Manchester, said: “The Creams Café franchise is a great example of a business taking advantage of a growing trend. SB Group saw the opportunity for a fantastic investment and took it and we are delighted to be able to support them on this exciting venture.”

The deal was completed by Darren Martin, HSBC’s Commercial Relationship Manager, who is based at HSBC’s Commercial Centre in Spinningfields, Manchester.

The six-figure funding package was secured through HSBC’s recently launched £10bn SME fund.

CHINA AIRLINES RETURNS TO THE UK

0

China Airlines, the national flag carrier of the Republic of China (Taiwan), is returning to the UK following a five year hiatus, with the launch of a new non-stop service between London Gatwick and Taipei’s Taoyuan International from Friday 1 December.

The new service will operate four times per week from Gatwick’s South Terminal with a flight time of just over 13 hours aboard China Airlines’ Airbus A350-900. The aircraft will carry up to 306 passengers with a three class configuration, offering Premium Business, Premium Economy and Economy cabins.

“We’re incredibly excited to be returning to the UK this year, making travel between the UK and Taiwan that much more simple and accessible,” says Roger Han, Senior Vice President, Europe at China Airlines.

“By offering the only non-stop service between these two countries, we hope to welcome travellers who may not have considered Taiwan as their first outbound destination previously. Furthermore, our route network offers a wonderful array of destinations throughout Asia or onward to Australia for British travellers to enjoy.”

The A350 has proven a popular aircraft with travellers, offering the tallest ceilings of any commercial aircraft with generously-sized overhead bins and one of the quietest cabins in the sky. The LED lighting systems and reduced cabin pressure are also effective in warding off jetlag.

Guests in China Airlines’ Premium Business can enjoy 180 degree lay-flat beds, aisle access for every seat and access to the onboard Sky Lounge where they can unwind over a cocktail, or vintage glass of wine. Those in the Premium Economy cabin will enjoy the comfort of fixed-back seats that recline by sliding forward into their hard shell, offering a more natural reclining position and meaning that the seat doesn’t recline backwards toward the passenger behind. In the economy cabin, guests will enjoy additional legroom thanks to a slim line seat design.

The route launch marks a first for China Airlines in establishing a base at London Gatwick Airport. The airline previously operated a route between London Heathrow and Taipei, from 2010-2012 and has operated a service to Amsterdam with an onward connection toLondon via a codeshare with KLM Royal Dutch Airlines since. The launch of this route will mark their return to the UK.

A proud member of the SkyTeam global airline alliance, China Airlines currently operate flights to destinations across Asia, North America, Europe and Australia, with a fleet of more than 80 aircraft.
