TalkTalk team scale Snowdon for Broughton House

0

Nine colleagues from TalkTalk trekked to the top of Mount Snowdon to raise more than £1,500 for Broughton House, the Salford care home for former servicemen and women.

The group all work in the service management division of TalkTalk Technology and are based at Salford Quays.

For a year the team has supported Broughton House as part of the telecoms provider’s Give Something Back programme, which encourages staff to volunteer or raise funds for local charities.

The intrepid group of five men and four women followed the Llanberis Path to the top of Snowdon, which at 3,560ft is the highest mountain in Wales.

Their route took them alongside the Snowdon Mountain Railway as they set off at 8am in misty and rainy conditions, reaching the peak by lunchtime.

They arrived back in Llanberis for 3.30pm, thrilled at their achievement of conquering Snowdon for a great cause.

Organiser Steve Cooper said: “It was a hard slog along steep stony paths to reach the summit but we were all determined to get there.

“Life felt good once we reached the top. We could see for miles and were able to unfurl the Broughton House banner.

“As a charity providing care for veterans, Broughton House is a cause close to the hearts of several members of our team, who have either served in the armed forces themselves or have family members who have or are serving.

“Being located in Salford not far from our offices, it really stands out as a charity that we are eager to support.”

Donations via www.justgiving.com/fundraising/ttsnowdon have so far exceeded the group’s target of £1,000, reaching £1,544 including Gift Aid.

Rhys Edwards, fundraising and marketing manager at Broughton House, said:
“We’re extremely grateful to the team for taking on the Snowdon challenge.

“TalkTalk has supported us in a number of ways over the past year, from spending time with residents and cleaning our military museum to providing hampers for our veterans to enjoy at Christmas. We really do appreciate their support.”

Collaboration with partners has grown year on year, to strengthen and extend the offering across both Upper and Lower King Street and that has once again been reflected in the increase in footfall during the weekend.

Finance deal secures bright future for 400 year old building

0

Cowgills’ has secured funding for the conversion of one of Manchester’s most historic pubs, the Cross Keys in Eccles. The building has now been acquired by specialist social care property provider in a deal worth £1.25m.

The 400 year old building sits alongside The Church of St Mary the Virgin in the centre of Eccles. It was developed by Annesley Living part of the Annesley Property Group to provide homes for 14 clients requiring supported living, following an initial investment from Cowgills sister bridging firm.

Planning permission was granted by Salford City Council in 2016 after the building had fallen into ruin, having been empty for more than three years.  As a ‘Building of Local Interest” Historic England was fully consulted on the proposals and ‘welcomed’ the plans.

Commenting on the development of the Cross Keys, Managing Director Jack Knight of Annesley Living, part of the Annesley Property Group said: “The pub has a fascinating history having been built in 1629, but it had been totally abandoned when we acquired it in November 2015. It was our goal from the outset to bring back a building which was used by the community into a building for the community, and for delivering on that we’re extremely proud. It is great to see it have a new lease of life as a community asset, which will provide much-needed supported living accommodation for the local population. Support that it has gained from the local community is genuinely heart-warming.

“Cowgills supported us throughout the development which has been challenging at times.  The team’s flexibility and responsiveness has allowed us to be able to adapt our plans as we went along. Dealing with the principal decision makers was critical, and David Rainford got thoroughly involved to help us get the project to completion.”

David Rainford, Finance Director at Cowgills added: “Seeing this fabulous building fulfilling a new role is as important to us as the deal. We are delighted to have been able to help Annesley Living and look forward to working with them on future projects.”
