NPIF Maven Equity Finance invests in Salford based software business Ideiio

NPIF Maven Equity Finance, managed by Maven Capital Partners (“Maven”) and part of the Northern Powerhouse Investment Fund (“NPIF”), has invested £2 million in Ideiio, a Salford based software as a service (“SaaS”) cyber security business.

Ideiio specialises in Identity Governance and Administration (“IGA”). Its software enables organisations to manage control of access rights across the entire business and automate key functions such as compliance and audit reporting. The majority of competitor IGA platforms in the market focus on larger enterprise clients, whereas Ideiio’s technology is targeted at the under-served mid-market. It provides a valuable solution which helps its customers increase productivity whilst keeping data secure.

The funding from NPIF Maven Equity Finance will help the business enhance its technology platform, drive revenue growth by expanding the sales and marketing team, and further develop its channel partner relationships.

Growth in the Identity Governance and Administration software market is driven by organisations looking to enhance operational productivity, strengthen security and improve customer experience. The market is growing at a compound annual growth rate of 16% and is forecast to reach a market size of $9 billion by 2026. (Source: Market Research Future, 2021).

Ryan Bevington, Partner at Maven, said: “Ideiio is an excellent example of a business which can benefit from equity investment through the Northern Powerhouse Investment Fund. It has developed an innovative software solution which is tapping into robust demand from businesses across a variety of sectors and geographies. We believe this investment will enable the business to achieve further scale, including in the large US market. The management team have an impressive range of technical expertise and experience within the identity security space and have a clear strategy for taking the business forward.”

Sean Hutchinson at the British Business Bank, added: “It’s always positive to see the Northern Powerhouse Investment Fund provide investment to innovative companies that provide creative solutions to service different areas of the market. Through this latest investment, the company can now improve its platform and accelerate its revenue growth. NPIF has a good track record when it comes to supporting businesses in this industry and we’re pleased to provide funding options for ambitious Northern companies.”

The Northern Powerhouse Investment Fund project is supported financially by the European Union using funding from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) as part of the European Structural and Investment Funds Growth Programme 2014-2020 and the European Investment Bank.

Manchester’s OHS appoints Nick Bye as new Group Commercial Director

Appointment will enable OHS to offer clients a comprehensive property proposition

Manchester-based compliance consultancy, OHS, has appointed Nick Bye as Group Commercial Director as it diversifies its business to become the UK’s only comprehensive solution for compliance and protection services in occupied and unoccupied property.

OHS has long been in the business of environmental compliance services in occupied, managed spaces, covering risk assessment of asbestos, water and fire, but with the appointment of Nick it will now provide new services to manage vacant property. It will become one of the few providers that offer services that can cover the full property lifecycle, from being vacant to occupied again.

Nick has 10 years’ experience in the property services sector, formally working for VPS Group. His experience in vacant property services will see him sell OHS’s wraparound solution of ensuring protected occupied and unoccupied properties to the property management, facilities management, and social housing sectors.

Commenting on his appointment, OHS Group Commercial Director, Nick Bye said: “Part of my role will be to take the business forward with new service lines, such as property maintenance and clearance work, while also developing OHS’s current service lines.

“I have a number of years’ experience of knowing what clients do and do not want from a property support service company, so I will to be able to grow the business rapidly as it offers a completely holistic service.”

OHS Managing Director, Andy Fowler follows: “The business has a lot of heritage and lots of exciting expansion plans, but we also needed someone to spearhead the strategy to deliver more services. This holistic approach will help us stand out in a crowded market space that sometimes can fall victim to poor service delivery and a lack of understanding of true customer needs.

“When we met Nick, the realisation that if we diversified into unoccupied property management –there are so many more following the pandemic- we could grow our portfolio of services and also offer a unique proposition to current customers and potential customers. Nick has fantastic contacts within various sectors, including major insurance companies who have strict requirements on making sure properties are protected and compliant. In addition, as a new board director, he will bring a new dynamic to the management team and we’re sure he’ll be a real asset to OHS.”

BRUNTWOOD SCITECH PARTNERS WITH AGENT ACADEMY TO ACCELERATE TALENT IN GREATER MANCHESTER

The UK’s leading property provider to the science and tech sector, Bruntwood SciTech, has partnered with North West-based social enterprise, Agent Academy, in a unique collaboration that will connect talent with opportunities in Greater Manchester, and create a pathway that bridges the gap currently facing job seekers and employers.

This innovative partnership will open the doors of some of the UK’s leading businesses to young people looking to secure employment in the digital, tech and creative industries.

As the UK’s fastest-growing region and the leading tech location outside of London, Greater Manchester has firmly established itself as a hotspot for both top-quality talent and high-quality opportunities. However, the city has been no exception to the pressure of demand for highly-skilled, specialist talent needed by the sector.

The partnership with Agent Academy will create a direct pathway that connects talent with opportunities, and employers in the region with future employees that will enable their businesses to flourish.

The collaboration comes after Bruntwood SciTech, which is a 50:50 joint venture between Bruntwood and Legal & General, announced plans for the third phase of its Circle Square tech and digital cluster in Greater Manchester, located in the heart of the city’s innovation district. Following the increased demand for workspace from leading science and technology companies looking to invest in Manchester, Circle Square provides workspaces and bespoke programmes of business support, helping creative, digital and technology businesses flourish, scale, and grow.

In a bid to further its ability to support customer growth, Bruntwood SciTech teamed up with the award-winning Agent Academy, which leads the way in delivering industry-designed training to help young people start and develop careers in the creative and digital industry. As a result of this ground-breaking partnership, local young people, aged 18-30, will learn from industry experts and connect directly to opportunities with businesses located inside Manchester’s Circle Square, where Agent Academy are also based. .

The partnership will be introduced exclusively to businesses positioned in Bruntwood SciTech’s Circle Square campus, with a view to expanding across other campuses throughout the country.

Deb Hetherington, Head of Innovation at Bruntwood SciTech, said:

“We know that all issues in business ultimately come back to talent. Manchester is one of the best places for that talent to be sourced and grown, and this partnership with Agent Academy will allow us to find new ways of connecting the right local talent to businesses in Greater Manchester. This will fuel the vibrancy and future growth of our incredible places and spaces.

“Bruntwood SciTech is committed to supporting the needs of businesses, regardless of their size. We recognise the need to help our customers identify the talent and skills they need to grow.

“By partnering with Agent Academy, who are also one of our customers at Circle Square, we’re creating a programme that enables businesses in Greater Manchester to grow, and we can simultaneously welcome more young talent to join the industry in Manchester which alone has so many assets to offer.”

Agent Academy is committed to upskilling and nurturing the next generation of talent, offering people from all backgrounds the opportunity to develop their skills, as well as gearing them with the connections and experience they need to be successful in industry.

Zoe Wallace, Director at Agent Academy, said:

“Since 2014, we’ve been working to bring solutions to complex skills and challenges. We know that with innovation and progression comes a need to rapidly develop future talent for business. The people we work with have that talent, but what’s missing is an understanding of how to apply their skills in industry, in part due to a lack of awareness of the vast opportunities that exist, and the confidence to believe that there is a place for them. Industry can often feel like a closed door.

“For employers, the challenge comes from a difficulty attracting the right talent to support growth, often due to a lack of understanding of what jobseekers are looking for and reaching them in a different way.

“By working with Agent Academy, industry can attract diverse and untapped talent, and future talent can get their foot on the ladder, unlocking high-value careers.

“This partnership between Bruntwood SciTech and Agent Academy offers a direct solution to these issues by creating a pathway between the two, opening the doors to industry for talent and increasing growth potential for businesses.”

BGN sets Victoria Leeds on new path with brand identity and website

0

BGN – the Manchester-based brand-led design and digital agency – has created a new visual identity and brand rollout for Victoria Leeds, a premium shopping destination and leisure area in central Leeds, comprising the 2016 Victoria Gate development, and the Victoria Quarter, a complex of upmarket restored and historical shopping arcades which opened in 1990. It includes a John Lewis & Partners, Harvey Nichols, a Super Casino and over 80 boutiques.

BGN won the project via a competitive pitch which was coordinated by The Go! Network. It also included the creation of a new dedicated website as well as other collateral such as signage.

The core aims and objectives were to create a visual identity and brand that positioned Victoria Leeds as an aspirational yet accessible place to shop, eat, drink, relax and socialise. The new identity needed to bring together the two separate centres which have different architectural styles and position them as one cohesive venue.

For the visual identity, the BGN team turned to the disparate architectural styles for inspiration and used the similar patterns that were in the roof of the new Victoria Gate and the roof window beams of the heritage Victoria Quarter arcades. They applied those shapes to create a new semi-circle marque that features a stylised ‘V’. It is now being utilised across all marketing materials whilst a very simple and classic typography complements it.

The new website incorporates all key brand elements and showcases everything there is to do at Victoria Leeds, including a handy brand directory, bespoke photography and a news section called Insider which highlights all the latest events and product launches.

David Newton – Creative Director at BGN – said: “Over the past few years, Victoria Leeds has become an iconic and must visit destination that’s more than just about shopping. The new brand and website draw on heritage elements but are also focused on Leeds’ reputation as a dynamic and forward-thinking city.”

Jo Coburn, Senior General Manager at Victoria Leeds – added: “BGN showed from the outset that they had the edge we were looking for in our creative agency partner following the sale of our centre earlier this year. The team has encapsulated what Victoria Leeds is all about and we are delighted with the result. The new brand and website have created a real standout personality for us. We are passionate about communicating why it’s such a fantastic place to visit and the new identity gives us the perfect foundation to build on the future of Victoria Leeds.”

Tech entrepreneurs from diverse backgrounds invited to join trade mission to Chicago

Black, Asian and mixed background tech entrepreneurs are being invited to register their interest for a four-day transatlantic trade mission to Chicago.

The Race Ethnicity And Cultural Heritage (REACH) Mission will visit North America in September (26 to 29).

Aimed at B2B tech sector founders in Greater Manchester and London businesses, the trip will help them to forge new connections, and explore expansion and investment opportunities in the U.S.

Up to 15 places are available on the mission, which has been organised by The Growth Company’s Global Scale-Up programme together with the London & Partners Mayor’s International Business programme.

Chicago’s central location provides multiple opportunities for global trade. According to a global report by policy organisation Startup Genome, Chicago is the world’s 19th best start-up region and around a third of their start-ups have either a woman or a person of colour as a founder.

The trip is part funded and participants will have the cost of lodgings, meals and attendance at all events covered. Businesses need to register their interest online by Friday, 15 July.

Entrepreneurs will have the opportunity to meet corporations, establish new trade opportunities, join investor roundtables and networking events.

Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham, said: “This is a really exciting opportunity for underrepresented tech entrepreneurs from Greater Manchester to make new connections and explore new openings in the US.

“Our city-region is the fastest-growing digital and tech hub in Europe, but for that growth to benefit everyone we need to be tackling digital inequalities and ensuring that everyone can develop the skills and forge the connections they need to succeed. Last year’s virtual REACH trade mission opened so many doors for those who took part, and this visit will offer an unparalleled insight into trade and investment opportunities in the US, giving a real boost to businesses at the cutting edge of our economy.”

Deputy Mayor of London for Business, Rajesh Agrawaladded: “London’s ability to foster entrepreneurship is known the world over, as is the strength of our diversity and commitment to pushing representation in business.

“I am delighted that London has once again joined forces with Manchester to support entrepreneurs from diverse backgrounds on our Race, Ethnicity And Cultural Heritage (REACH) trade mission for UK scaleups. Following a successful first year, this mission once again highlights the great work between business ecosystems in London and Manchester and demonstrates how UK cities can collaborate to accelerate the growth of UK companies globally.”

Last year’s delegates included Gori Yahaya, CEO and Founder of training provider UpSkill Digital.

Gori said: “The REACH mission helped us open doors that we never would have thought possible in such a short space of time.

“Albeit we already had a handful of US clients, this mission enabled us to begin conversations with major players such as Wells Fargo and Comcast, and secure major contracts delivering Inclusion and Leadership programmes with US giants, Walmart.”

May Al-Karooni, CEO and Founder of Globechain, an online marketplace that connects enterprises to charities and people to redistribute unneeded items, also joined the virtual mission.

May added: “Following the initial introduction facilitated by the trade mission, we are now in discussions with a major retail brand. We have had other great successes off the back of REACH, including building relationships with the DIT and becoming members of GBx.

“The mission exceeded expectations, and broadened our horizons and access to a REACH community that really wants to make a difference around diversity and inclusion.”

NW Cyber Corridor boosted by further investment with HOST piloting NCSC’s CyberFirst Schools in the North West

0

Innovation hub HOST, the Home of Skills & Technology in MediaCity, Salford, has been appointed as the North West delivery partner for a pilot of CyberFirst Schools, run by GCHQ’s National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), to champion cyber education in the region’s North West Cyber Corridor.

Through its flagship Skills City operation, HOST will deliver the CyberFirst Schools pilot over a one-year period to over 500 schools and colleges from across the North West to inspire more young people to explore careers in cyber security.

The collaboration will further increase fair access to technology careers, particularly for those from disadvantaged backgrounds and underrepresented groups, including girls and young women. Female representation in the sector is considerably low, with women accounting for just 22 per cent of the UK’s cyber workforce.

HOST, operated by IN4 Group, will draw on its extensive local and national employer network to help facilitate engagement between industry and schools in the region. This will enable more young people to access opportunities, such as mentoring and work experience, outside the classroom and in the growing technology sector.

It will be working with leading industry and regional academic partners including BAE Systems, Raytheon, Siemens, AWS, University of Central Lancashire and University of Salford, to drive further investment into schools and future-proof technology talent.

The contract follows HOST’s successful delivery of three rounds of GCHQ’s Innovation Co-Lab – a programme which aimed to find innovative start-ups and small to medium-sized businesses in the North West. Successful companies took part in a 12-week programme to work with GCHQ technologists and industry experts to improve their products. HOST also held the first North West Cyber Summit in March to support the building of the Cyber Corridor.

The CyberFirst Schools initiative recognises schools and colleges across the UK that are committed to encouraging young people to develop cyber skills, with the NCSC awarding them with a gold, silver or bronze status.

Since the initiative was launched in 2020, 49 CyberFirst schools and colleges have been recognised, helping to develop cyber skills ecosystems around the country and addressing the industry’s cyber skills gap.

The 2022 CyberFirst Girls Competition final was also held at HOST in Salford and was focused on inspiring girls aged 12 to 13 to consider pursuing careers in cyber security.

Mo Isap, CEO of IN4 Group, said: “Being Blackburn born and bred, it’s fantastic to see these great prospects for Lancashire as well as Greater Manchester, and now we have a significant opportunity to inspire future generations into technology careers with the CyberFirst programme. This will have a huge impact on young people across the region, who are currently living in places like Salford, Accrington and Blackpool. The bringing together of education, skills, technology and industry is the key enabler to creating prosperity in the region.

“With the UK government’s investment of more than £5 billion into its new National Cyber Force in Samlesbury, Lancashire, the region is leading the way to establish further innovation and skills as part of the emerging North West Cyber Corridor.

Chris Ensor, NCSC Deputy Director for Cyber Growth, said: “The NCSC is committed to providing young people with opportunities to excel in cyber security, and our work with industry plays a vital role in this.

“We are pleased that HOST will be piloting our CyberFirst Schools initiative in the North West on our behalf and welcome their support in developing the region’s cyber skills ecosystem.”

The CyberFirst programme offers a range of free opportunities aimed at providing young people the skills, opportunities and exposure they need to thrive in cyber security.
