0

Travel Counsellors, one of the UK’s leading independent travel companies, has reported bumper figures for 2022 and continues to break all records, celebrating its best ever November in history with UK sales up 66 per cent on 2019 and 40 per cent higher than the previous year, showing a great start to 2023.

Leisure sales, in particular, show Brits are not giving up on holidays as sales are up by 75 per cent on 2019 and 33 per cent up on 2021. This is reflected in the Travel Counsellor’s November customer survey, that recorded 78 per cent of customers strongly agree and agree that there holidays are so important they will still travel next year, with 79 per cent either looking to book as normal or even earlier than normal in order to get the best deal.

Furthermore, Winter travel sales are also rocketing with the company seeing its best ever December departure month, and sales for 2023 winter period (November to April) already 25% up on 2019 final figures, at over £170 million so far.

Steve Byrne, CEO of Travel Counsellors, comments: “These outstanding results are a reflection of the incredible care shown by our people to their customers. Over the last few weeks we have seen higher enquiry levels and value than ever before, as people look towards their 2023 travel and want to book earlier to lock in prices. They also want to book with someone they can trust and will be there to offer the best advice and tailor travel to suit them, as highlighted in our recent customer survey. This need for tailormade travel is reflected further in the trends we are seeing, with a strong return of the multi-centre, long-haul holiday and popular destinations including Thailand, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand.

“We are of course cognisant of the current environment and are focused on continuing to support our Travel Counsellors and provide them with the most personal digital platform to enable them to build successful travel businesses, provide the very best service to their customers and celebrate more success in 2023.”

All markets in which Travel Counsellors operates are outperforming 2019, with corporate business sales also on the up by 73 per cent versus pre pandemic figures, with 2,141 bookings made last week alone.

Mat Hanson, Chief Financial Officer of Travel Counsellors, adds: “Overall, we are tracking more than 50 per cent up on 2023 departures versus 2022 even though 2022 has been a record year for us as a business, with over £800m in sales reached for the first time. These record-breaking results show we continue to build a solid foundation for growth, notwithstanding the current environment, and have accommodated the pent up demand that we predicted earlier in 2022 and are now witnessing for the months ahead within the travel industry.”

AO BRINGS FESTIVE CHEER TO BROUGHTON HOUSE

0

A team from online electricals retailer AO brought some early festive cheer to residents and staff at Broughton House Veteran Care Village when they spent the day there putting up Christmas trees and decorations and handing out gifts.

All eight members of AO’s communications team took part in one of the firm’s Make a Difference days, which enables employees to give back to the community by volunteering with a charity or good cause.

Broughton House in Salford has been redeveloped in a £12.5m scheme to create the UK’s first Veteran Care Village and is currently welcoming new residents.

It has been transformed into a modern complex featuring a 64-bed care home and independent living apartments, an array of modern facilities, a museum and an Armed Forces Support Hub, which provides welfare support and counselling for ex-service people of all ages living in the local community.

The AO team was the first group of volunteers which Broughton House has been able to welcome into the building since the onset of the pandemic.

Russell Craig, director of communications at AO, said: “What a day! We met some amazing people – staff and residents – and it felt so good to make a positive difference to their day, as a team. We’re so lucky that AO provide us with two Make a Difference days a year and we can’t thank everyone involved enough for giving us this opportunity.”

Scott Bennett, one of the AO team, suggested the team visit Broughton House after hearing about its work with veterans.

He said: “We enjoyed putting up the Christmas trees and decorations in all of the units, we chatted and had tea with the residents, and we loved hearing their stories and all about their lives and histories, as well as being shown round the museum by Broughton House historian Owen Hammond.

“We also hosted bingo in the Veterans’ Mess, with Christmas gifts and goodies as prizes for everyone taking part.

“We’re hoping to visit again on further Make a Difference days, as it was the best teambuilding day we’ve had for a long time.”

Jack Stephenson, marketing and fundraising executive at Broughton House, said: “We’re extremely grateful that the AO team offered to volunteer at our home during this busy Christmas period. They did a fantastic job putting up festive decorations and were great hosts of bingo, even being kind enough to buy gifts for our residents.

“Being able to invite people into Broughton House once again has been wonderful. Our residents love interacting with the wider community, as it provides them with an opportunity to share some of their incredible stories.”

Innovative wellness initiative in Cheshire East receives grant funding

0

After securing funding from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), an entrepreneur from Cheshire East has launched a creative and wellbeing venture.

Emma Semper Hopkins, who is the founder of Semper Hopkins Upholstery & Interiors, received a four-figure sum to kickstart her new group upholstery workshops for businesses.
The grant was used towards the cost of new benches and tools; consultancy for new product development; and marketing and website development.

“I want to thank Manchester Metropolitan University for all their support throughout the grant application process, as well as all the learning I have taken from the Cheshire & Warrington Business Growth Programme,” said Emma, 40, whose premises are located in a former chapel at Scholar Green.”

The other improvements we have made include a refreshments bar; tech and presentation facilities; and breakout areas for meetings and strategising. “My dad Ian has carried out all the refurbishment work. He has been collaborating with me since we first bought the chapel on Cinderhill Lane in 2016. Alongside my mum Kath and my husband Dave, he has been my greatest champion and supporter.”

Having started out making custom-designed furniture and offering a customised upholstery service, the father-and-daughter duo began offering upholstery workshops to individuals during the pandemic.  Their service offering has now evolved to include group upholstery workshop experiences for four to 12 people from businesses across the North West and\\ff Staffordshire.

“Around two-thirds of small business owners are suffering with mental health issues after the pandemic – with anxiety, depression and sleep deprivation being the most common problems,” said Emma – citing research by FreshBooks.

“Additionally, according to the latest findings from the HSE, more than 910,000 workers across the UK are suffering with new or long-standing work-related stress. Crafting is proven to bolster mood, improve self-confidence and reduce stress overall. A form of ‘social prescribing’, group crafting is increasingly being advocated as an alternative to – or alongside – medication or therapy. My dad and I are, therefore, delighted to be offering creative workshops that can help to improve the wellness of the North West and Staffordshire’s business community.”

The Federation of Small Businesses Cheshire supported Emma’s official launch – bringing its Live Network Events roadshow to the chapel for an evening of networking with a creative twist.  Since then, upholstery workshop attendees have included UnlikelyGenius founder Helen Hill, who said:

“Speaking frankly, Emma’s upholstery workshop came at the perfect time. I was feeling burnt out and overwhelmed from running three businesses, as well as from putting in stupid hours at work.  I even turned up with a laptop and planned to sneak in the odd email; however, I was so engaged with the task in hand I didn’t look at my laptop at all! The atmosphere was so calm in the chapel. Restorative is the word. My biggest take-away was the headspace. The whole experience made me step back and reevaluate how much I have done and how much I missed taking time out from work.”

Harley-Davidson gets a boost from a local entrepreneur

Manchester-based marketing startup GL Digital has been hired by two Harley-Davidson franchises in Louisiana, USA, to expand business

GL Digital Automotive Marketing, founded and operated by Gary Lewis Cheetham (25) to support the growth of vehicle dealerships, has been personally selected by two American Harley-Davidson franchises to increase motorcycle sales in the new online-first, direct-to-consumer environment thanks to the development of proprietary software.

As with so many other product purchases, vehicles are being increasingly bought online. From AutoTrader and Cazoo, to Tesla selling cars from its own website and stores, the showroom is no longer the default choice. The coronavirus pandemic only accelerated this change in behaviour, and two-thirds of buyers in the USA now want to purchase their vehicle entirely online.

GL Digital’s automotive direct-to-consumer technology, which Gary began developing as a teenager, allows local and independent dealerships to offer buyers the same polished experience as Cazoo, Cinch, and Carvana. This helps local dealers compete with larger, VC-backed startups and continue serving their community.

On the strength of this technology, GL Digital has been appointed by Mike Bruno’s Northshore Harley-Davidson and Mike Bruno’s Freedom Harley-Davidson, both in Louisiana, USA, and is generating hundreds of sales enquiries every month. They have also built a dedicated website to generate pre-qualified finance leads and allow riders to easily sell their motorcycle to the franchise using a simple chatbot that automatically handles the process – with maximum efficiency for the seller and dealership.

Randy Bugnitz, Marketing Manager for both Harley Davidson franchises, said: “Our process is changing the motorcycle sales experience and how it is perceived, this is what separates our dealerships from the competition. Gary came in with fresh and clear ideas of where he saw our digital marketing presence heading. His process, skill set and knowledge in the digital advertising world has allowed us to test, re-test and clearly define where our marketing budget should be allocated towards. This is where Gary and GL Digital excel.”

Gary Cheetham, founder of GL Digital, said: “The days of being required to visit a dealership to purchase a vehicle are over. What we’re doing with this technology is empowering smaller, local outlets to offer their community the same polished, slick online experience that the larger, well-financed companies like Cazoo have. But more than that, it removes reliance on third-party sites which can increase their fees whenever they want to. Our technology puts power into the dealerships’ hands, giving them the ability to generate their own leads at lower costs and offer a superior service to the customers.

I’m very proud that this development has enabled us to establish GL Digital across the Atlantic and to work with such a legendary, storied brand. Harley Davidson was founded over 120 years ago, and we’ve come together as a result of Randy’s obsession with customer experience and staying on top of new trends. His team is proof that even older, established brands can continue to thrive in a modern sales environment.”

How To Get Your Roof Ready Before A Solar Panel Installation

0

Introduction

The entire world is going fast towards renewables. This is because the traditional or non-renewable source of electricity is fast depleting. Therefore, the developing and developed world is making an investment so far as renewables are concerned.

Solar is the fastest-growing alternative source ofroofing energy. According to a study, solar energy constitutes 40% of new electricity generation. The same study projects that the solar capacity will quadruple in the next ten to 10 years.

Are you planning to install solar panels this year? Then find a solar panel installer that can help you with your installation. Before the installation, you need to get your roof ready. Here are certain things to follow so that you prepare your roof for solar panel installation.

Facts And Stats On Solar Panels Installation

Solar energy is taking the entire world by storm. They have immense benefits. This is the reason millions of households in the USA and elsewhere install solar lights on their roofs. Before we dive into the discussion, let’s conduct a study on the use of solar photovoltaic cells. They provide you with a better understanding of the value of solar installations.

  • According to a report, around 92.5 million solar panels are in use throughout the world today.
  • The Average costs of solar systems range from $10000 to $30000.
  • According to 2021 stats, solar amounts to more than 36% of the new electricity generating capacity that is added to the energy alternative energy preparation. Now, this is quite a robust development that you have here.
  • The USA will use around 4.6 gigawatts of solar PV capacity in the second quarter of the year 2022 to reach 130.9 Gigawatts of energy. This energy is enough to power more than 23 million American homes.

These facts and stats tell about the serious intent of the United States in taking alternative energy to the people’s doorsteps. Therefore, it can be understood that there is serious intent in the country for solar energy.

Why Roofs For Your Solar lights?

Roofs are considered one of the best places where you install solar panels. There are different kinds of rooms- like flat ones and folded ones. Remember, the folded ones are mainly for the places that receive snowfall throughout the winter.

If the roof has slopes, it is probably the best place to install solar lights. This is because the sloped roofs have zero utility. Therefore, installing solar panels on your roof can save some space. Moreover, the sloping terrace receives maximum sunlight, and therefore it becomes a smart place where you install solar panels.

Preparing Your Roof Ready Before Installation Of Solar Panel

Are you mentally frustrated by the soaring electricity bills? Yes, the soaring electricity bills are a real problem. The depletion of natural resources is limited.

If you have decided to install solar panels, then you need to work on your roof. This provides a foundation for your roof installation. There are a few ways to get your roof ready for the installation of solar panels. Contact the experienced Roofing Contractors Manchester that help to make your roof ready before solar panel installed.

1. Inspect Your Roof And Attic

Keep in mind when you install solar panels on your rooftop, get the roof and the attic inspected. But don’t do it all alone. Call an expert, as they can tell you the exact condition of your rooftop.

Remember, your rooftop might have damps, cracks, and trouble spots. Installing solar panels on top of it will weaken your ceiling furthermore. The work of roof experts is to test the strength of your roof. They have different tests to check the life of your roof. After they completely check your roof and give you a green signal, you can start with your work.

2. Roof Replacement Is Better

As mentioned above, you must take the advice of the roofing expert before you go with the heavy installation. The roofing expert would tell you if your roof has enough strength to hold the weight of the load.

The roofing expert conducts different kinds of inspections. You may replace your roof with a new roof. You may carry out work before installing panels. Everything depends on the tests.

But, we recommend you get your roof replaced, especially if you have an old one. Remember, that the average age of the roof ranges from 25 to 30 years. Now the roof will have to carry the extra weight for so long!

3. Measuring The Roof

So call an expert to measure your roof. You need to understand that measuring the roof is important. You can buy solar panels. This is easy, and you can do it all by yourself.

Remember, when measuring the roof, multiply the length with the breath. This will provide you with the area of your roof. After you finish your roof, you multiply it by a hundred. This gives you the exact measurement of the solar installation. This is how you do it, as it requires no professional help.

4. Study The Slope Of The Roof

This is another technical aspect of getting your roof ready for solar installation. This is because this is an important aspect of the entire development. The slope or angle of your roof determines the angle of solar panel installation. It might be that the slope of your roof may not be in order, meaning it is not suitable to get maximum sunlight during the day.

The inclination or slope angle provides you with a study on the angle of solar light installation. Then, according to the advice or recommendation of the expert, you need to install your solar panels.

Bringing The Discussion To A Close

To bring the discussion to a close, it could be understood that solar power has quite a strong potential. It could also be pointed out that the government is trying its level best to create awareness. As a result, the ecosystem is stronger than ever.

But if you are determined to increase the cost of installing solar panels, you must develop an understanding of solar installations. So call an expert to go for a complete checkup of your roof.

The quiz game was displayed on the large courtside screens during half-time, when home team Movistar Estudiantes took on MoraBanc Andorra. Over 30% of the stadium’s fans (2,192) participated in the trivia quiz at half-time, all competing to become the next Movistar Estudiantes Trivia Champion.

Brits are expected to spend £191 on Christmas dinner this year, as cooks in North East and Wales come out as savviest shoppers with the biggest portions

Families in the North East and Wales have topped the list as those serving up the biggest portions on Christmas Day – with Wales enjoying the most turkey and the North East indulging in the largest servings of gravy.
But even with huge portions, it is also Wales and North East that get the biggest bang for their buck when comparing dinner size to shopping costs.
SPAR UK surveyed 2,000 adults and found that families are expected to spend anywhere between £121 to £350 on their Christmas dinner this year with an average of £191 each. The spending in each region includes:
  1. London – £350
  2. East of England – £270
  3. East Midlands – £190
  4. Northern Ireland – £184
  5. South West – £176
  6. North West – £175
  7. Yorkshire – £174
  8. North East – £157
  9. Scotland – £156
  10. Wales – £154
  11. West Midlands – £144
  12. South East – £121
However, when it came to the savviest spenders this year, Wales came out top as getting the most for their money when comparing the size of portions to the costs of ingredients:
  1. Wales
  2. North East
  3. West Midlands
  4. Yorkshire
  5. Scotland
  6. London
  7. South East
  8. South West
  9. North West
  10. East of England
  11. East Midlands
  12. Northern Ireland
The poll discovered that confidence is high when it comes to our cooking skills, with two thirds surveyed (63%) proud to say that their whole family loves their Christmas dinner and over half (53%) believe their dinner couldn’t be any better.
Cooks in Northern Ireland were the most confident in their Christmas dinner with over three quarters (76%) agreeing that the family loves their dinners, but only half (51%) in the West Midlands said the same. And when it came to perfecting every element of the meal, nearly a quarter (22%) of those over 55 strongly agreed that their Christmas dinner couldn’t get any better.
However, half (50%) believe there is too much pressure to create the perfect dinner and over a quarter (26%) admit that at least one ingredient always ends up burnt. More than a third (37%) also revealed that they don’t eat very much after cooking their Christmas dinner, as many feel the stress after preparing one of the most important meals of the year.
The average Brit will tuck into three slices of turkey, four pigs in blankets, four roast potatoes, two Yorkshire puddings, five brussels sprouts, and 100 ml of gravy on Christmas Day.
A third (33%) do things a little differently with mashed potato as part of their festive dinner – whilst a quarter (24%) opt for Beef over Turkey or alongside. In the North East, 15% surveyed have up to 6 slices of Turkey with their dinner – the most in the UK, but surprisingly it is Northern Ireland who has the most Yorkshire Puddings, with 8% having 5 to 6 on their plate.
Only 1 in 10 cook a Nut Roast alternative for Christmas Day but this is the most popular in Brighton with 1 in 5 (20%) including it as part of their Christmas dinner, followed by 18% in Bristol.
Furthermore, 54% said they always go overboard with how much food they need, with two thirds (65%) of families in Northern Ireland cooking too much for dinner. Those in Edinburgh are the most likely to go overboard (67%) compared to only 45% of those in Leeds.
Two thirds (67%) will sit down to eat their Christmas dinner with friends and family between 1 pm and 4 pm, and most families tuck into their meal at 3.10 pm – traditionally just after the usual slot for the Queen’s Speech but the first for King Charles this year.
Over 55s usually eat the earliest on Christmas Day at 2.40 pm and families in the North East tuck in just after 2 pm, nearly two hours before Londoners who enjoy dinner at 3.45 pm.
Jamie Seymour, Head of SPAR Brand from SPAR UK commented: “Christmas dinner is always an exciting but stressful part of the festive season, especially when you’re trying to get your timings right or if you’ve forgotten the pigs in blankets! Our research shows that we all love sitting down for dinner with our nearest and dearest, so if you do forget anything for the big day our stores can take some of the pressure off.”
SPAR’s own-brand festive meal accompaniments and prepared vegetable lines are available in store now to make the day more convenient, including Luxury Mince Pies and Rainbow Root Vegetable Roast.
