IT Firm Commits to NHS Savings and Carbon Emission Reduction by Repairing Staff Mobile Phones

Multimessage, an IT company, has recently secured a government tender to repair mobile phones for public sector organizations, including the NHS.

NHS staff across the UK now have the opportunity to have their mobile phones quickly and conveniently repaired, thanks to a government tender awarded to a select few IT companies. The tender was recently won by UK-based Multimessage, which aims to contribute to sustainability efforts and reduce carbon emissions in the public sector. With an efficient framework in place for repairs, Multimessage’s service will save the NHS both time and money.

“It is our collective responsibility to reduce electronic waste and extend the lifespan of devices through repair or refurbishment. Public sector organizations should consider partnering with Multimessage through the national framework for electronic device repair services. Our solutions enhance sustainability, improve the efficiency of the fault management process, and reduce costs associated with replacing faulty devices.” – Rob Cunnane, Managing Director, Multimessage.

According to the NHS Confederation, the growth of NHS funding slowed to 1.4% per year from 2010/11 to 2018/19, lower than the average of 3.7% per year in real terms since 1948. While there is increasing pressure to allocate more funds to the NHS, Multimessage aims to help the organization save money. The cost of replacing mobile phones can be a significant burden for public sector organizations like the NHS. Therefore, any savings made will positively impact more critical areas of the NHS.

A report by Deloitte revealed that smartphones generate 83% of their lifetime emissions in the first year, with most of it stemming from the manufacturing process. With growing concerns about climate change, the NHS can play its part by extending the lifespan of devices, thereby reducing emissions and promoting sustainability. This contributes to ensuring the long-term resilience and success of the NHS and its operations.
