Manchester finance professional joins City in the Community Board of Trustees

Manchester City’s official charity, City in the Community (CITC), has appointed Gary Tipper, one of the most respected figures from the North West finance community, to its Board of Trustees.

Gary co-founded Manchester-based Palatine in 2005 as one of the first private equity houses headquartered outside of London. Over the subsequent 18 years, he has helped grow the business into a leading force in the UK private equity market and made a major contribution to Manchester’s evolution into the economic capital of the North.

A leading figure in the North West finance community for over 30 years, Gary has helped many businesses to reach the next stage of their growth journeys. Under his leadership Palatine has forged a reputation as a pioneer in the sector, due to its trail-blazing approach to sustainable investment.

Commenting on his new role, Gary said: “As a lifelong City fan – and yes, I was there at York away in 1998 – I am immensely proud of being welcomed onto the Board of Trustees for City in the Community.

“Over the last few decades, City in the Community has completed some great work to empower our community and provide opportunities for people of all ages through the means of football. I am honoured to have been given the opportunity to deliver more important work for the Manchester community and provide some insight from my 30 years in business.

“Palatine was founded on the core principles of being a force for good and it is something that still sits at the forefront of the business today. It is these same principles that I will bring into my new role with the football club I hold so dear.”

Mike Geary, Head of City in the Community, said: “We are thrilled to be welcoming Gary onto our Board of Trustees and would like to take a moment to thank him for his commitment to the charity.

“Every member on our board brings with them a unique expertise which can benefit the charity, so we’re really looking forward to benefitting from Gary’s finance experience.”

Since its inception in 1986, Manchester City’s official Foundation has been empowering healthier lives through football across Greater Manchester. Reaching thousands of people each season, CITC’s programmes place physical and mental wellbeing at their core, whilst also creating healthy futures and healthy communities.
