A Worcestershire commercial property consultancy has been chosen to manage a significant portfolio of mixed-use accommodation at Worcester’s renowned Hopmarket. GJS Dillon’s Asset Management team will be responsible for overseeing the property management of 25 retail units and 44 affordable housing flats within the Hopmarket. Working in collaboration with the Hopmarket Charity, registered landlords on behalf of Worcester City Council, and Platform Housing Group, who manage the flats, GJS Dillon will handle various tasks such as client communication, repairs, maintenance, and ensuring the community’s health and safety within the Hopmarket building.
The Hopmarket derives its name from Worcester’s Hop Fair, where surplus hops were sold in the 1890s to traders from all over the country. The Grade II listed building, initially a hotel and warehouse, was converted into the current retail units and flats in 1900.
Established by a Parliamentary Act in 1730, the Hopmarket Charity has the responsibility of maintaining the Hopmarket and providing support to those in need. The current Trustees, two-thirds of whom must be Worcester City Council members, collaborate to lease the retail units to a diverse range of entrepreneurial traders and promote increased footfall within the market. Any surplus funds generated from these leases are transformed into grants for local charitable causes, helping individuals in need.
Emily Bullock, Associate Director of Asset Management at GJS Dillon, expressed her excitement about the new instruction, highlighting the building’s architectural beauty and the diverse mix of tenants. She looks forward to working with them to cultivate a positive community spirit within the Hopmarket. Bill Simpson, Chairman of the Hopmarket Charity, expressed satisfaction with the work carried out by Emily and her team thus far, recognizing their pivotal role in maintaining the Hopmarket’s vibrancy as a thriving community in the heart of Worcester.
