Project Solar UK, the leading installer of solar panels in the UK, has created a unique campaign focussing on energy in this year’s World Cup.
Selecting a player from each country in the last 16 teams, the Project Solar UK team calculated key statistics to establish their individual energy outputs and how these could be converted to run appliances in a domestic setting.
Looking at data such as kilometres ran per game and kilowatts of energy produced by the individual footballers, the Project Solar UK data science team then worked out what those figures could equate to to power appliances in the home. Quirky comparisons such as kilowatts required to power a television set for a number of hours to broadcast football matches and the energy required to power LED Christmas lights ensured the hit social media campaign drew high engagement figures.
The campaign focusses on the phenomenal energy of the greatest football players in the world. In a single match the data science team calculated that someone like Declan Rice, for example, can run over 40km and produce over 4 kilowatts of energy – enough to power a television for 279 hours to watch 186 football matches! The World Cup tournament data the team researched on the elite athletes shows their incredible energy output and serves to highlight its vital role. Making the link to the natural source of energy in the sunshine draws attention to just how solar panels capture and harness energy and convert it to power devices and appliances in our homes.
