During National Recycling Week, Spinning Gate Shopping Centre was delighted to announce their achievement of a prestigious Green Apple Environmental Award for its 2017 waste processing achievements with their waste partner B&M Waste Services.
Spinning Gate Shopping Centre and B&M Waste Services will both receive a Green Apple Award for Environmental Best Practice at a glittering presentation ceremony at the Houses of Parliament in November.
The awards, now in their 24th year, reward and promote environmental best practice in the UK and elsewhere in the world. The award was achieved as a result of the ongoing waste management improvements and initiatives B&M waste have provided and worked in conjunction with the Spinning Gate Shopping Centre team to achieve 100% diversion of waste to landfill.
So far in 2018, Spinning Gate Shopping Centre have saved 52k kg of carbon through increased recycling with B&M Waste, which is the equivalent of 32 trees or 18,000 car miles.
Karen Cox, Centre Manager at Spinning Gate Shopping Centre commented: “What a fabulous achievement, ensuring 100% diversion from landfill of over 103,000kg of waste produced from site during 2017 and to be awarded with an Internationally recognised Environmental award is tremendous news for Spinning Gate Shopping Centre. The centre team and centre retail partners are fully committed to recycling initiatives and are delighted to be presented with this award.”
Jayne Kennedy, Marketing Manager of B&M Waste Services, said: “We are delighted to have won a prestigious Green Apple award which recognises the fantastic results our relationship with the Spinning Gate team have been able to achieve in a relatively short period of time. We highly praise Spinning Gate Shopping Centre staff, retailers and customers for buying into the new waste segregation and recycling strategy we have implemented together.”
