Greater Manchester pipeline firm targets £7m turnover

A fast-growing Greater Manchester business which supplies gas and water pipeline products is aiming for further growth after reaching sales of £4.5m in just three years.

PE Pipeline Specialists, based near Ashton-in-Makerfield, is aiming to increase turnover to £7m within the next two years and grow staff numbers from 11 to 16.

Founded in 2015 by Paul Evans, Jane Bishop, Paul Quin and Clifford Lloyd, the business supplies pipeline products, fittings and accessories across England and Wales and attributes its rapid growth to strong demand from the housebuilding and construction sectors.

Paul Evans, managing director of PE Pipeline Specialists, said: “We supply predominantly to utilities contractors that work on behalf of the bigger utilities firms and major housebuilders to connect new developments to the network.

“We’ve built up the business mainly by word of mouth referrals and hard work. Demand from the housebuilding sector has been strong, but we’re also working with commercial developers, golf courses, caravan parks, landfill sites – pretty much anywhere that has a demand for pipe products.”

PE Pipeline Specialists is being advised on its ongoing growth by regional accountancy and business advisory firm MHA Moore and Smalley. The firm has advised Paul in areas such as accounts, tax and auto-enrolment for workplace pensions.

Colin Hughes, corporate services manager at MHA Moore and Smalley, said: “Paul is vastly experienced in the sector. It’s a great example of someone spotting an opportunity to create a business of their own because they know an industry so well.

“Paul and his team have a clear plan to grow and we look forward to helping the business further as its impressive growth continues.”

Paul decided to set up the business after 15 years working in the industry. The firm has won customers including Aptus Utilities, Connect It Utilities and T&K Gallagher Ltd.

Paul added: “We’ve achieved phenomenal growth but we couldn’t have done it without our staff who have been excellent. They’re the reason we’ve got so many loyal customers.

“In terms of further growth opportunities, we’re doing a lot more down in the south, places like Portsmouth and Southampton, so we haven’t ruled out opening another base down there in future if we need it.”
